Entertainer Wayne Soares is performing a comedy benefit for local youth programs on Saturday night.

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Wayne Soares will bring an evening of comedy to the American Legion this weekend to support local youth.

Wayne Soares actor, comedian, entertainer, and professional emcee will perform at Frank R. Stiles American Legion Post 125 on Saturday evening to raise money for children and youth programs of the American Legion and the State Street Neighborhood Kids.

"I am going to come in and do my act and make some people laugh," Soares said. "I think it's the perfect time because it is around the holiday, people are in a good mood with Christmas cheer and the whole nine yards, and most importantly it is for a good cause."

Soares has been a regular in North Adams since he graduated from what was then North Adams State College. He said he considers the city his second home.

"I fell in love with North Adams when I was an 18-year-old freshman at the old North Adams State College. I love the people, I consider some people there like my second family," Soares said. "The people are just the salt of the earth and I just really love coming back."

Charitable acts are not foreign to Soares, who speaks at schools in the area and travels the world performing for the troops. Soares has brought laughter to men and women stationed in Afghanistan, Iraq, South Korea and London.

"It is very important to me to go and give back and raise some money for some kids," he said. "This time of the year it is very important for me, especially around the Christmas season."

Soares has performed in comedy clubs throughout New York City, Boston, Chicago and Los Angeles. He has also appeared in an array of films.

In 2012, Soares was cast in the film "Blind Pass" and the 2013 mobster documentary "My Father, My Don." Soares can also be seen in the comedy "The Curse of Don Scarducci" (2014) featuring Alec Baldwin, and the suspense thriller "Tobacco Jack" (2014). Soares' most recent role is the film "Snitches."

Saturday night's show is for those 21 and older but Soares said his comedy is something everybody can enjoy.

"I'd like everybody to come out. It is going to be a great show. We are going to have some fun," he said. "I invite everybody to come out it will be a really good time."

The show starts at 7 with local comic Dan Schilling opening. Tickets are $10 and may be purchased in advance through the American Legion or State Street Tavern.

Seating is limited and people can reserve tables of six or more with advanced payment.
