Friday - Saturday: Berkshire Theatre Group presents Atlantis, Lost! And Other Legends from the Strange Waves at Berkshire Museum 

 

Atlantis, Lost! is a collection of stories about historical wonders and the waters of the world. This collection of wet and wonderful tales includes the lost civilization of Atlantis, the life of a pirate, the origin of surfing and the Loch Ness monster. Ride the strange waves and discover a whole new view of the world through these inspired episodes of modern mythology.

10x10 Event: Friday: 10 Days of Play at Berkshire Museum

 

10 Days of Play returns this season in a big way with our newest exhibit, If/Then!  Test your skills in teamwork, communication and creativity through a new set of challenges each hour. Explore the exhibit through the eyes of an alien, communicate in secret codes, or don your detective hat and solve a scavenger hunt. With different activities featured each day, learners of all ages will find something to spark their imagination.

Friday: Matt Heaton: Toddlerbilly Troubadour at Berkshire Museum

 

Matt Heaton's music is a kid-friendly blend of folk & surf-inspired originals and reworked classics. Like musicians before him, he took a keen interest in music for kids after the birth of his son, now leading engaging sing-alongs that adults can enjoy too.

10x10 Event: Friday: Ten Spot Art Show at the Lichtenstein

 

The annual invitational Ten Spot Art Show features the best contemporary artists in the Berkshires and surrounding area, from north to south and in between.  This year, the artists were each nominated by former Ten Spot artists.  You will see billboards around the county featuring each artist, bringing the gallery out to the streets.

10x10 Event: Friday+: 10 days, 10 stencils, 10 colors at Shire City Sanctuary 

 

An evolving demonstration and installation of a screen printed poster. We will be screen printing a ten color poster, adding one color to the poster every day for the ten days of the festival. Culminating in a limited edition, final, 10 color print on the last day of the 10×10 festival.

Andrew Neiman is an ambitious young jazz drummer, single-minded in his pursuit to rise to the top of his elite east coast music conservatory. Plagued by the failed writing career of his father, Andrew hungers day and night to become one of the greats. Terence Fletcher, an instructor equally known for his teaching talents as for his terrifying methods, leads the top jazz ensemble in the school. Fletcher discovers Andrew and transfers the aspiring drummer into his band, forever changing the young man's life. Andrew's passion to achieve perfection quickly spirals into obsession, as his ruthless teacher continues to push him to the brink of both his ability- and his sanity.

The Berkshire's first homegrown burlesque and cabaret troupe colors you wild this February with their latest extravaganza, 10 Shades of Gypsy Layne, part of Pittsfield's 10×10 Festival. Bring in some color to these cold winter days!  In this one-day workshop you will paint quick, relaxed color studies and learn to mix acrylic paint in the process.  Use this time to try something new or rediscover the pleasures of paint, color and really LOOKING at the world around us.  No experience or materials necessary- just come in from the cold and share the day playing with color.

Saturday - Sunday: Oscar Nominated Documentary Shorts at The Little Cinema

 

This year's nominees for Best Documentary Short Subject will screen at the Little Cinema. Crisis Hotline: Veterans Press 1: each month, the Veterans Crisis Line receives over 22,000 calls from military veterans, who account for 20% of all suicides in the U.S. each year. Joanna: as she faces a terminal illness, the mother of a young son writes a blog in which she tries to leave a record of what she hopes to teach him. Our Curse:  a mother and father face the difficulties of caring for a baby who has been born with a life-threatening congenital breathing disorder known as Ondine's curse. The Reaper (La Parka): for the past 25 years, Efrain has worked in a slaughterhouse, where he has developed an intimate relationship with both death and what one must sometimes do to live. White Earth: three children and an immigrant mother face a long and difficult winter in North Dakota, which has attracted many people seeking work during an oil boom.

Saturday: Public Skate at Pittsfield Boys and Girls Club

 

The City of Pittsfield Recreation Program has teamed up with the Boys & Girls Club of Pittsfield for a free public skating opportunity.  The Recreation Program and the Boys & Girls Club invite the first 100 people through the door during the Public Skate at the Pittsfield Boys & Girls Club to free admission for skating as well as free skate rental if needed (limited size availability).

10x10 Event: February 21: 10 Mini Trios by 10 Composers at The Whitney Center for the Arts

 

Rescheduled due to weather! Come to the Common to see a live fireworks display that will brighten up the winter sky!  There will be a bonfire and yummy snacks provided by Dottie's Coffee Lounge and Zion Lutheran Church.  The festivities begin at 4pm.  The fireworks will go off around 5:45pm.  Dress warmly as all activities are outside!

10x10 Event: Saturday, February 21: Ten Decades of Jazz Piano at Baba Louie's

 

Jazz has undeservedly gained a mystique of inaccessibility. In this presentation/performance, master pianist Bill Mays provides examples of jazz' progression from raggedy honky-tonk sounds to its speakeasy era, to its heyday in the mid-20th century, to bebop, and now, to "America's Classical Music." Choosing one example from each of 10 decades, his interpretations both entertain and educate; the audience gets to hear a NY-based piano virtuoso, and appreciate downtown Pittsfield. Monday, February 23: Public Input Session at Conte Community School

 

The Pittsfield Department of Community Development is sponsoring a Public Input Sessions this year as part of the preparation of its 2015 Consolidated Annual Action Plan.  The purpose of the Public Input Sessions is to obtain public comments and suggestions on how the City's federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds should be used to improve the quality of life in our community.  Everyone who attends this public input session will be given the opportunity to speak on what community issues are important to them, such as: housing; public facilities; job opportunities; drug and alcohol abuse; childcare; domestic violence; handicapped services; and elderly services.
