Friday: Take Another Look Opening Reception at Lichtenstein Center for the Arts

The April show at the Lichtenstein Center for the Arts is a photographic essay on food insecurity in Pittsfield. With Take Another Look, photographer Nicholas DeCandia hopes to make visible the dignity, strength, and dilemma of those trying to feed themselves and their families on minimum wage salaries or other minimal incomes. The exhibit also features a very powerful video by Michael Sinopoli of Greylock Productions. The South Congregational Church Food Pantry will be accepting food donations throughout the exhibition at the Lichtenstein Center for the Arts. The non-perishable food contributions that are most desired are: soup; spaghetti sauce; peanut butter and tuna fish. Monetary donations will also be accepted.

This opening reception is a part of First Fridays Artswalk.

Friday: First Fridays Artswalk

Enjoy a dozen different art shows featuring work by over 15 accomplished regional artists in Pittsfield's bustling Upstreet Cultural District during the First Fridays Artswalk and all month long! (In most venues, artists will be present from 5 to 8 pm on Friday, April 3rd!) The fun doesn't stop at 8! Friday: Bird Walks at Canoe Meadows

This is a sure sign of spring! Look for migrants of all kinds, especially the beautiful wood-warblers. Walk past wetlands and meadows and through woodlands observing changes in bird species each week. Preregistration is not required. Bring binoculars; beginners welcome.

Friday: WeeMuse Adventures at Berkshire Museum

Little ones can explore the Aquarium and three Museum galleries! Each week features songs, stories, scavenger hunts, play time, and more. Check our weekly e-news for each week's theme. This program is geared towards children 18 months to 3 years. Older and younger siblings are always welcome!

Friday-Monday: Zero Motivation at The Little Cinema

A smash hit in Israel, Zero Motivation is a unique, sharply observed, sometimes dark and often hilarious portrait of everyday life for a unit of young, female soldiers in a remote Israeli desert outpost. Pencil-pushers in the Human Resources Office, best friends Zohar and Daffi spend their time playing video games, singing pop songs, jousting with stationery and dreaming of Tel Aviv. The indolent twosome are watched over by their aspiring senior officer, Rama, who dreams of a higher position and a significant military career, but with a platoon of unskilled, idle, female soldiers without any drive under her charge, her ambitions for promotion are constantly thwarted. With shifts of tone that go from slapstick to satiric to horrifying with fluid ease, and with a superb supporting cast of characters, Zero Motivation is destined to be one of the most talked about films of the year.

Saturday: 71st Annual Eggstravaganza Egg Scramble at Morningside Community School

Here comes the Easter Bunny! Bring your children for the city's annual Easter Egg Scramble. This year's schedule: 10:30 am for 9 year olds; 10:40 am for 7 & 8 year olds; 10:55 am for 5 & 6 year olds; 11:10 am for 4 year olds; 11:25 am for 2 & 3 year olds. The event is free and open to all Pittsfield children. One winner in each age group who finds the golden egg will receive a special prize. Children are asked to bring their own baskets. Make sure to bring a camera because there will be a special appearance by Mr. Bunny!

Saturday: WeeMuse: Art Lab at Berkshire Museum

Using the Museum as our inspiration, we will be exploring different art forms and mediums in these monthly sessions. Each project will leave you with something to take home as a memory from your visit. Appropriate for children ages 2-5, accompanied by adult. Saturday: Chow Time at Berkshire Museum

Help prepare enticing feasts for the turtles, fish, chameleon, and even the blue-tongue skink in the Aquarium!

Monday: Federation Program Berkshire Center for Justice: How it Relates to You

The Jewish Federation of the Berkshires presents Eve Schatz, esq, founder and executive director of the Berkshire Center for Justice, Inc. Find out about the role the Berkshire Center for Justice (BJC) has in our local community. Attorney Schatz will recount how, in 2006, she instituted a pilot program to test whether free legal clinics would help address a gap some Berkshire residents were experiencing in accessing timely legal services in connection to civil matters. The BJC now includes 24 attorneys, 2 accountants, and other professionals who offer pro bono and reduced fee services. To date, the BJC has served over 850 clients and their families.

Tuesday: Cause For Paws 11^th Annual Radiothon Benefitting Berkshire Humane Society

Live from the humane society, dedicate or request a song for $20. All proceeds benefits the shelter. Plus giveaways and raffles to listeners!

Tuesday: Toddler Story Time at Berkshire Athenaeum

For ages 1 1/2 - 3. No registration required. Children under age 10 must be accompanied by an adult, age 18 or older, at all times.

Tuesday: Genealogy Research Using the Census and Other Resources at Berkshire Athenaeum

Join volunteer instructor, Alan Horbal, in learning techniques for continuing genealogical research using the census and other resources over 4 consecutive sessions-March 31, April 7, April 14 and April 21. Participants may choose either a morning session or afternoon session. You must have an established email as a pre-requisite for these sessions. We ask that you attend all four.. There will be two classes on Tuesday: 10am and 1pm. Space is limited and Preregistration is required. Tuesday+: Four Week Painting Pet Portraits at Berkshire Paint & Sip

The objective of this class is to gain experience to create a balanced pictorial composition. You will learn the process through which a figurative animal portrait is made. This includes developing the concept, gathering visual reference material, learning techniques to create emotions, depth, and linear perspectives to develop an original painting. Tuesday: Sewing Circle at Shire City Sanctuary

Every Tuesday evening, Shire City Sanctuary hosts a sewing circle for hand and/or machine sewers. Bring a project to work on, there are hand tools and basic notions available. Use the door on the parking lot side of the building toward the back, under the fire escape. All are welcome, no experience necessary.
