PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Art is being placed throughout the city this month.
On Tuesday, the city installed the third of five pieces of art for public viewing. Artist June Bisantz crafted seven signs featuring nature — a chickadee, an American elm tree, a honeybee, a ladybug, a mayflower, mountains, and a black swallowtail butterfly featuring the words sing, grow, be, fly, flower, climb, and emerge.
Those signs will hang in various places in the downtown.
Those were installed Tuesday afternoon, eight days after installing Jack Howard-Potter's Swinging II in Park Square, which is metal sculpture of a person swinging.
On April 15, Ze'ev Willy Neumann's Tip of the Hat was installed outside of the Colonial Theatre.
The Parks and Open Space Department is still scheduling installations of Joseph Chirchirillo's "Global Cooling Device," a concrete and metal windmill, and his "Red Rocks #1," another concrete and metal sculpture. Those will be in Park Square and Persip Park, respectively.
The new sculptures replace some already placed in the city's downtown. Each year, the city chooses new pieces of public art to display as part of the artscape program.
