PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Pittsfield Family YMCA has new curriculum in its Camp Sumner program: STEM activities. Also, registrations are open with scholarship applications due by June 1. Camp Sumner’s weekly sessions are from June 29-Aug. 28.

The Y’s Camp Sumner develops the necessary building blocks for youth development by providing a safe, creative learning environment for young people to feel empowered, build self-esteem, explore personal interests, develop interpersonal skills and make lasting friendships and memories.

Held at Berkshire Community College, Camp Sumner is available for children ages 5 years to ninth grade, with those entering seventh through ninth graders in our Leaders in Training program. One-week sessions Monday through Friday go from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. from June 29-Aug. 28. Camp cost is $160/one-week session and includes before and after camp care. Before camp care is from 7-9 a.m. and after-camp care is from 4:30-5:30 p.m. All campers must have a Y membership to attend camp. One-time annual youth membership fee (up through 12 years old) is $36. Teen memberships (13+ years) are $15 for one month. Bus transportation from the Y and Egremont elementary school is available.

New to Camp Sumner this year is Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) activities, funded from a grant by SABIC. 2015 Field trips have also been confirmed: Howe Caverns, Pittsfield State Forest, Bousquet Ski Area, Springfield Science Museum, Barrington Stage Company at Berkshire Museum presenting Shrek, YMCA Camp Becket and Northern Berkshire YMCA Field Day. Activities also include swim lessons (grades K-6), recreational swim, field/group games, environmental study, arts and crafts, tennis, fitness classes, team building, traditional sports and field trips in and around Berkshire County (grades 3+).
