PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Only two incumbents appear to be running unopposed in the upcoming city election.

As of June 22, races have formed for all City Council seats except in Ward 3 and Ward 5. There appears that there will be races for city clerk, mayor, and School Committee.

Of four people who took out papers for mayor, only incumbent Daniel Bianchi and current City Clerk Linda Tyer have had their signatures certified. Eric Bassett and Craig Gaetani have both taken out papers but haven't returned them.

For city clerk, Jody Phillips, a former city clerk, has returned her nomination papers and Aurelina Peguero has taken out nomination papers but hasn't returned them.

For city councilor at-large, incumbents Churchill Cotton, Kathleen Amuso and Melissa Mazzeo have taken out nomination papers; incumbent Barry Clairmont has said he is not running for re-election. Amuso has returned her nomination papers, as have challengers Peter Marchetti, Peter White and Joseph Nichols, all of whom are former councilors. Challenger Taylor DiSantis has taken out papers but hasn't returned them yet.

In Ward 1, incumbent Lisa Tully has taken out nomination papers as has challenger Tammy Ives. Neither have returned their papers yet.

Michael Merriam and incumbent Kevin Morandi have both returned nomination papers for Ward 2.  Ward 3 incumbent Nicholas Caccamo has returned his nomination papers. No one else has taken out papers for that ward. Incumbent Christopher Connell has also returned nomination papers for Ward 4 and has no challengers thus far.

In Ward 5, there appears to be a three-way race unfolding. Richard Scapin, a former councilor, and Donna Todd Rivers have both returned papers; Devon Grierson has taken papers out but hasn't returned them yet. Incumbent Jonathan Lothrop is not seeking re-election.

Ward 6 incumbent John Krol has taken out papers as has his challenger Bruce Wood. Neither have returned their papers yet.

Incumbent Anthony Simonelli in Ward 7 has returned nomination papers to be on the ballot. He is being challenged by Kathy Lloyd, who took out papers but hasn't yet returned them.

Nine people took out papers to run for six seats on the School Committee but none have returned them yet. Incumbents Joshua Cutler, Daniel Elias, Cynthia Taylor, Katherine Yon, Pamela Farron, and Daniel Elias have all taken out nomination papers. Their seats may be challenged by Salvatore Frieri, Richard Backer and Irwin Moiseff.
