WALTHAM, Mass. -- The West baseball team ended up with a bronze medal at the 2015 Bay State Games after dropping a 9-1 decision to Southeast on Friday.

 

Hoosac Valley's Matt Koperniak gave the West a 1-0 lead in the top of the fifth when he led off with a single and scored on a base hit by Jacob LaRochelle of Chicopee.

 

But Southeast took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the fifth and poured on runs from there.

 

The West team, which featured six players from Berkshire County, ended up with the same 3-2 record as four other teams in the six-team field but took third place due to tie-breakers.

 

Southeast was awarded the gold medal. The Northeast team took the silver.
