Friday: Free Fun Friday at Hancock Shaker Village

 

HSV opens its doors to one and all for FREE! Throughout the day we'll host special fun and games for kids, as well as our usual ongoing demonstrations of woodworking, blacksmithing, and spinning / weaving in buildings throughout the historic Village.  The Village Harvest Cafe will be open as for snacks and lunch from 11 am to 5 pm, and we'll have additional lunch options on site for families, too. (Or, pack a picnic! We have lots of tables, both indoors and out.) Don't miss our ongoing exhibits: Heaven on Earth, in the Visitor Center, and the show of contemporary sculpture,Modern Wings & Shaker Roots, throughout the historic Village.

In this heartfelt and original folk-pop musical, two estranged brothers reunite at their childhood home after their mother's funeral. Editor Walter Burns will do anything to find an ace reporter cunning enough to scoop a story in the cutthroat Chicago press world, even if that means turning to his ex-wife, Hildy Johnson, who comes back to the newsroom one last time before leaving the game for good. In Guare's adaptation, the play takes place in 1939, the day before war breaks out in Europe, which adds a political framework to the otherwise antic proceedings.

Saturday: OLLI Distinguished Lecture Series Presents A Conversation With Maestro Asbury

 

OLLI, the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Berkshire Community College, continues its tenth anniversary Distinguished Speakers Series with an onstage conversation with Tanglewood conductor Stefan Asbury and Tracy Wilson, Executive Director of the Berkshire Music School. In demand by many of the leading orchestras worldwide, Stefan Asbury is renowned for his innovative programming and for the past twenty years has served on the faculty of the Tanglewood Music Center. Tracy Wilson, Executive Director of the Berkshire Music School, will be interviewing Mr. Asbury on stage. Wilson is an active musician, serving as conductor of the Stockbridge Festival Chorus, and collaborative pianist for many community groups.

 Saturday: Tours of Immortal Present: Art and East Asia at Berkshire Museum

 

Co-Curator and director of collections & curatorial affairs Maria Mingalone will conduct tours of the exhibition twice a week, offering insight into the creation of the exhibition, the selection of the art, and fascinating details on the objects and works included in the galleries. Immortal Present features the Berkshire Museum's historic collection of Asian art and showcase works by a number of significant and influential contemporary artists with ties to Asia.

Saturday: Berkshire Mosaic Book Launch at the Lichtenstein

 

"The Berkshire Mosaic" is an anthology essays written in MulticulturalBRIDGE's column "On The Bridge," which runs monthly in the Berkshire Eagle. Join us on Saturday at the Lichtenstein Center for the Arts to celebrate the vibrant diversity, rich heritages, and legacy of Berkshire Counties residents. The event is free and open to the public. Copies of "The Berkshire Mosaic" will be available at the event for $29.99. Proceeds from the book will benefit our Social Justice in Action fundraising campaign, and help our programs succeed in Berkshire County and beyond. Intentional Jazz, the brainchild of trumpeter Rob Fisch, pays tribute to the heritage and roots of jazz during the 'hard bop' era. Intentional Jazz brings to audiences a fresh return to this rich tradition, complete with special sextet arrangements written for trumpet, sax, & trombone along with a traditional jazz rhythm section of piano, bass and drums. Rob Fisch on trumpet along with Charlie Tokarz (sax), Alfred Brewer (trombone), David Bartley (piano), Jeff McRae (drums) and Otto Gardner (bass).

Monday: Craft Activity: Tissue Box Monsters at the Berkshire Athenaeum

 

Craft Activities last for 30 - 40 minutes and are intended for children 5 - 12 years old. Registration is required (in person or by phone). Signups start one week prior to activity and is limited to the first 18 children. If you can't make it to the activity, you must call to cancel so the space can be offered to another child. Two "no-shows" mean your child cannot sign up for further craft activities.

Monday: Elizabeth Stanley- I Got Carried Away at Mr Finn's Cabaret

 

Inspired by her current role as Claire De Loone in the Broadway revival of On the Town, leading lady Elizabeth Stanley pays homage to the witty and poignant songbook of the show's creators and original stars, Betty Comden and Adolph Green. Elizabeth explores some of the legendary duo's unforgettable hits ("Just in Time", "Make Someone Happy") and celebrates their collaborations with some of the greatest American theatre composers.
