Hundreds Walked a Mile during Third Thursday
 
Thank you to everyone who came out for Third Thursday last night.  A special thank you to the Elizabeth Freeman Center and the Walk a Mile in Her Shoes committee for another successful event.  And another shout out to Laurie Mick and the Office of Community Development for assuring that the Downtown Streetscape Project was cleaned up for festivities.       
 

Little ones can explore the Aquarium and three Museum galleries! Each week features songs, stories, scavenger hunts, play time, and more. Check our weekly e-news for each week's theme. This program is geared towards children 18 months to 3 years. Older and younger siblings are always welcome.

Town Players of Pittsfield presents "Five Women Wearing the Same Dress" by Alan Ball. The play is set in the home of the bride in Knoxville, Tennessee, during the newly married couple's ostentatious wedding reception. The five reluctant bridesmaids are hiding out in an upstairs bedroom, each with her own reason to avoid the proceedings downstairs. As the champagne begins to flow, these five very different women discover a common bond they never expected. This funny, irreverent and touching celebration of women's spirit will make you laugh, cry, and fall in love with each of its characters.

Noted historian and author Cornelia Brooke Gilder will give an illustrated talk entitled "Past Private Gateposts and Up Winding Drives: Historic Country Houses in the Berkshires." Gilder, co-author of Houses of the Berkshires and Hawthorne's Lenox, will give a virtual tour of these storied "Gilded Age" places, telling about the big houses at the end of the driveways and the fascinating families who built them.

The NFL Punt, Pass & Kick football competition allows youngsters to showcase their talents in punting, passing and kicking with scores based on distance and accuracy. The competition is free and open to boys and girls ages 6-15. Do you have a couch cushion with a broken zipper? Or a bike that needs maintenance? A broken lamp? Take it to the Repair Cafe and get it fixed for free! Anyone with a repairable broken item, such as small appliances, clothing, toys, small furniture items, and so on may bring it to the Repair Cafe, but guests are asked not to bring shoes, watches, or CRT TVs or monitors. Volunteers will fix as many articles as possible. The Repair Cafe is a project of the Pittsfield Resilience Circle.

Journey through the history of the gilded age Colonial Theatre as historians, Bob Boland and Bill Munn, share the story of the 1903 world-class theatre, movie house, National Historic Treasure appointment by Hillary Clinton, restoration, and 2006 grand re-opening.  The tour is one hour. Wear sensible shoes for standing and stair climbing through three levels and backstage areas, elevator access available. This is part of the Housatonic Heritage Walks Weekend.

Monday: Town Players of Pittsfield Membership Meeting at The Whitney Center for the Arts
 
 Town Players of Pittsfield will have its first Membership Meeting of the 95th Season (2015/2016). It's an opportunity to learn more about what makes this community theater, that is the oldest theater in the county and one of the oldest non profit, continually running theaters in the country, tick. Anyone with an interest in theater, whether on stage, behind the scenes or in the audience is welcome. Members are encouraged to bring friends.
 
Town Players is looking for new members, new leadership and new ideas to celebrate this landmark season. Come and hear about the successes of this past season and the plans for the current season. The short business meeting will be followed by entertainment and refreshments.

Sean Donnelly is a NYC-based comedian and actor. He made his network TV debut on The Late Show with David Letterman and 2015 is a huge year for the affable comic with appearances on Comedy Central's @midnight, Broad City, and The Amy Schumer Show. Donnelly's first Comedy Central special is set to premiere on November 14th.

The Jewish Federation of the Berkshires' Connecting with Community series introduces Paul Sturtz, the new artistic director of the WFF Presents: Wind-Up Fest - formerly the Williamstown Film Festival (WFF).  Now in its 17th year, the festival welcomes big changes with a new name, new faces, and new programming concept. Sturtz will talk about why he chose to take the festival in a new direction, his interest in the northern Berkshires, and the programming he curated that includes the creators and makers of documentary film and other forms of nonfiction.
