PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Berkshire County Arc has launched its third annual campaign, the purpose of which is to raise funds for an accessible van to expand the activities, volunteer opportunities and trainings in which the individuals in its residential and day habilitation programs can participate.

The campaign will run through Dec. 31.

The new accessible van will be similar to the van shown in the accompanying picture. Nearly half of the individuals served by the agency participate in residential and/or day habilitation programs. Berkshire County Arc operates day habilitation programs in Dalton, Lee and Pittsfield, serving more than 150 individuals. The programs provide participants with social, recreational, educational and cultural experiences that enrich their lives, while improving their social development, sensory motor and mobility, communication and independent living skills.

There are more than 150 individuals in residential programs in both Berkshire and Hampden Counties in Massachusetts. Residential options include community residences, staffed apartments, supported living and home ownership. Residents participate in a variety of community, recreational and social activities, as well as training in areas including communication, decision-making, domestic skills, money management and relationship-building.
