The Miss Hall’s School Theater Ensemble will present 'Nice Work if You Can Get It.'
PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Miss Hall’s School Theater Ensemble will showcase the songs of George and Ira Gershwin, performing the musical comedy "Nice Work if You Can Get It" in shows at 8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 19, and Saturday, Feb. 20, and 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 21.
Set on Long Island in the “Roaring Twenties,” "Nice Work if You Can Get It" brings the Gershwin songbook to life, as recently married playboy Jimmy Winter finds himself tangled up with a trio of bootleggers, including one who steals his heart. With the law sniffing around, romance in the air, and prohibitionists in the house, there are plenty of madcap happenings in this lively musical.
The show, with music and lyrics by George and Ira Gershwin and a book by Joe DiPietro, opened in April 2012 on Broadway and ran for nearly 500 performances before closing in June 2013. It won two Tony Awards and three Drama Desk Awards.
The production stars seniors Jackie Blair as Jimmy Winter and Desiré Garza as the feisty bootlegger Billie Bendix, with freshwoman Ainsley Schuth and junior Maya Finston-Fox of Monterey as Billie’s cohorts, Cookie McGee and Duke Mahoney. Junior Josie Dorsey plays Eileen Evergreen, Jimmy’s fiancé, while junior Christina Zhang, as Senator Max Evergreen, and senior Amelia Biancolo of Richmond as Chief Berry, pursue the bootleggers.
