Play Ball! Reflections on the Origins of Baseball blends history, poetry, and a sense of humor to create an exciting and hilarious play. Audiences will learn the rules and terms of baseball while celebrating the cultural significance of the game in Massachusetts. The play will enlighten audiences about the importance of the mascot, not just as comic relief but as a symbol of luck and hope that can bring cities together. Through fictional interactions with historical figures (from Queen Hatshepsut to Reverend Allen and Charles Bulfinch), the audience is shown the spirit behind baseball and how it has evolved to become America's pastime.

Town Players of Pittsfield and the Whitney Center for the Arts are co-producing a fully staged production of "10 Short Stories @ the Whit" by Jerry Leventhal. The BCC Players will hold auditions for the Tony-Award winning Avenue Q. The 2003 production was a hit on Broadway, garnering Tony Awards for Best Musical, Best Score and Best Book.
Described as "part flesh, part felt and packed with heart," the puppet-filled comedy, which resembles a certain beloved children's TV show but with humorous adult issues, follows a gang of 20-somethings seeking their purpose in big-city life.
Auditions are scheduled for Monday and Tuesday in Room K-111 of the Koussevitzky Arts Center. Those trying out need only attend one evening. Callbacks, if needed, will be held at 7 p.m. on Wed., Feb. 24.
Those auditioning should bring a 32-bar song (backing tracks are acceptable, although an accompanist will be provided) and a one-minute monologue.
