Enjoy over a dozen different art shows featuring work by over 20 accomplished regional artists in Pittsfield's bustling Upstreet Cultural District during the First Fridays Artswalk and all month long!

The Tobin Trifecta with JJ, Bill and Jesse is at the Lichtenstein Center for the Arts for the month.   
In most venues, artists will be present from 5-8pm. Join us for a free guided tour beginning at 5pm at the Intermodal Center @ BRTA, 1 Columbus Ave.

The fun doesn't stop at 8! Join us for the Afterwalk Party from 8-10pm at the Whitney Center for the Arts, 42 Wendell Ave. featuring an acoustic-metal performance by Sifer band members Aimee Gelinas and Dan Cohen. Free and open to the public!

Friday: Park Square Goes Blue for Autism

Pittsfield's Park Square, City Hall and downtown Pittsfield businesses will be showing their support of Autism awareness with blue lights for the month of April, which is Autism Awareness Month.

Taconic Theatre presents Broadway's longest-running American musical. Set in 1920s Chicago, and based on real-life murders and trials, the show follows a wannabe vaudeville star who murders her lover. In jail, she meets her hero, a famed double-murderess and nightclub performer. When both acquire the same lawyer, they vie for the media spotlight. With catchy, sexy music and timeless lyrics, this musical spectacular is as addictive as gossip rags and as unforgettable as any trial of the century.

Winner of the 2016 Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, Son of Saul, set in October 1944, follows Saul, a Hungarian member of the Sonderkommando, the group of Jewish prisoners at the Auschwitz-Birkenau camp forced to assist the Nazis. Saul discovers the body of a boy he takes for his son. As the Sonderkommando plans a rebellion, Saul decides to carry out an impossible task: save the child's body, find a rabbi to recite the mourner's Kaddish, and offer the boy a proper burial.

Students from St. Joseph and St. Agnes Schools will present Meredith Willson's The Music Man. In addition to the student cast, there will be cameo appearances by alumni and by local residents whose identities will be revealed during the performances. 
 
The story is set in River City, Iowa where Harold Hill, a slick salesman and con artist, arrives to unleash his latest scam: selling instruments and uniforms for a boys' band. After making the sale, Harold expects to skip town. Instead, he ends up winning over the townspeople, with the exception of librarian Marian Paroo. In spite of her suspicion, Marian finds herself falling in love with Harold.

Boston native Adam Ezra has been making music for 15 years, and his touring band now includes six musicians: Ezra on vocals and guitar, Corinna Smith on fiddle, Turtle on hand percussion, Josh Gold on keys, Francis Hickey on bass, and Alex Martin on drums. Performances are renowned for their energy and uniqueness, drawing from Ezra's prolific songwriting catalog. Voted "2012 Album of the Year" and "2013 Band of the Year" by The New England Music Awards, AEG puts on a show that'll have fans dancing all night.

Celebrate National Robotics Week in Spark!Lab. During Robot!Lab, prototype a robot using recycled materials; challenge a Lego Robot to navigate a maze using an iPad; program a friend using simple command cards; and mix and match magnetic robot parts to design a custom robot!

The first annual Berkshire Youth Expo is for parents, caregivers and young people, and will feature informational booths, performances, demonstrations and other events focused on getting young people involved in healthy, positive activities. Teachers, agencies, coaches, businesses, trainers, tutors, and mentors from around Berkshire County will showcase what they have to offer for area youth.

The 2nd Berkshire Metal Festival, presented by Gamma Collective and The Metalist, will be a day-long event and will feature some of the best metal acts in New England. Bands include Goat Herder, Orcumentary, Potsy, Trading Heroes for Ghosts, Mental Pause, The Killing Kind and others.

Hailed by NPR as a "promising new artist," Jonah Tolchin is a rock and blues musician who grew up with Mississippi roots music. His songs are born of deep feelings, struggles and trials, and he delivers them with an elegant simplicity. Tolchin will be releasing his sophomore record, Thousand Mile Night, in August.

The concert will feature BMS alumna Madalyn Parnas, on violin, who has performed with the London Philharmonic and at the Kennedy Center. The Jewish Federation of the Berkshires presents "Chair Yoga" with certified Kripalu yoga teacher Robin Seeley. This gentle yoga style is practiced while sitting, so students can warm up the body safely and perform poses with support and stability. Students will learn a variety of yoga postures and breathing techniques that will help increase flexibility, strength, and health. Chair yoga is suitable for all ages, fitness levels, and physical conditions.

Town Players of Pittsfield is holding auditions for a fully staged production of Love, Loss and What I Wore by Nora and Delia Ephron. The play is based on the book by Ilene Beckerman, and deals with memorable moments in a woman's life and the clothes that were part of those times. It is organized as a series of monologues and uses a rotating cast of five principal women. Women ages 30 to 55 are needed to play characters from 5 to 70 years old.

"Vespers" is the name of an evening service which specifically includes prayers for the close of the day that has been observed in the Christian tradition for at least the last 15 centuries. Jazz Vespers incorporates modern elements of jazz and blues into this historic tradition, from the song arrangements, to the harmonies, to the instrumentation. A casual meal featuring local restaurants will precede the concert at 5:30pm.

Outspoken, WordXWord's Youth Poetry Festival will take place May 6 & 7 in Pittsfield. Young poets ages 13 - 23 are invited to participate in this celebration of spoken word which will include workshops, poetry reading, and poetry slam competitions. Participation is free, but requires preregistration by April 10. More information about the festival can be found at OutspokenYouth.com.
