FRIDAY May's First Fridays Artswalk Is Here!
 
Enjoy more than a dozen different art shows featuring work by 20+ accomplished regional artists in Pittsfield's bustling Upstreet Cultural District during the First Fridays Artswalk.

In most venues, artists will be present from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, May 6th. Join us for a free guided tour beginning at 5 p.m. on May 6th at the Intermodal Center @ BRTA, 1 Columbus Ave.  Click here for a guide.

The fun doesn't stop at 8! The Afterwalk Party from 8-10 p.m. at the Whitney Center for the Arts, 42 Wendell Ave., will feature live music from Rakish Paddy. Free and open to the public!

GET CREATIVE
Calling all creative - and experimental - spirits! Learn how to use tablets to color and create art. The library has a number of tablets with downloaded apps with which you can draw and/or color. Library staff will provide limited instruction. If you like what you made, they will help you save it and/or share it with the library. You may bring your own tablet or use one from the library. 9:30-11 a.m. Register with the Berkshire Athenaeum.

The Jewish Federation of the Berkshires presents "Chair Yoga" with certified Kripalu Yoga teacher Robin Seeley. Students will learn a variety of yoga postures and breathing techniques that will help increase flexibility, strength, and health. Shire City Sanctuary's 3rd annual Food Truck Rodeo will feature 10 food trucks and vendors, live music, and local craft beer. Free admission. 11 a.m. - 5 p.m.
 
This year's event will coincide with "Living The Change," a climate action and sustainability fair. Enjoy presentations, discussions, activities and crafts for all ages, a screening of the film This Changes Everything, and a late-night dance party with DJ BFG. 11 a.m. - 11 p.m.

The Laugh Lounge Series presents one of the country's most popular standup comedians. In 1987, Kevin made his debut appearance on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson and was invited back to the show more than a dozen times. He was a special guest on Saturday Night LiveThe Late Show with David LettermanOprah and Late Night with Conan O'Brien. Kevin also starred in the CBS sitcom Uncle Buck and appeared in the movie Big. 8 p.m. In The Garage.

The first of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) 2016 Distinguished Speakers Series will feature Ben Z. Rose, author of Mother of Freedom: Mum Bett and the Roots of Abolition. He will discuss the life of the Berkshires' Elizabeth "Mum Bett" Freeman, the first black slave to gain her freedom in a court of law based on the principle of general equality. 10:30 a.m. More information.

FILM
The Animation Show of Shows
at the Little Cinema

This premiere animation festival features 11 new international shorts, highlighting techniques including hand-drawn, paint on glass, stop-motion, and computer-generated animation. The program also includes four short documentary portraits of directors and their creative process.
  
 
What's Showing at The Licht
Pittsfield's city-owned community arts center, the Lichtenstein Center for the Arts, features nine working artist studios, a ceramics studio, a community room and an art gallery with changing exhibitions, classes, performances + more!

Art in Our Schools

This annual exhibition features the work of middle and high school art students in Pittsfield. A special thank you to the art teachers Michael Boroneic, Mary Beth Eldridge, Alisa Mierzejewski, Lisa Ostellino, Barbara Patton, Colleen Quinn, Lauretta Saldo and Amy Sommers.
