SATURDAY Opening Day of the Farmers Market
|
Saturday is Opening Day of the Downtown Pittsfield Farmers Market, where you can shop for fresh, local and seasonal fruits and vegetables, pasture-raised meats, eggs, cheese, bread and baked goods, along with wine, coffee, artisan gifts and more. SNAP proudly accepted.
At 10 a.m., Mayor Linda Tyer will kick off the Pittsfield Mayor's Fitness Challenge, with stretching and warm-up by Berkshire Running Center, Zumba with Berkshire Yoga Dance & Fitness, plus a whole lot more fun and physical activities. The BHS Wellness Van will give free blood pressure screening and health info all day.
From 9 a.m. until 1 p.m., kids can make (and taste) healthy snacks with Food Adventures and get their own special balloons from Balloon Ben. And you can enjoy live music from Lee Rogers from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Rusted Root has sold more than 3 million albums worldwide since forming in the early '90s. The band's worldly style quickly charmed fans of roots music and world rock. Their 1994 album, When I Woke, went platinum and featured the hit songs "Send Me On My Way," "Ecstasy" and "Martyr." Throughout the '90s. the band toured with many well known performers, including Jimmy Page and Robert Plant. The band's most recent album, The Movement, explores a variety of musical styles. The 10th anniversary season of Third Thursdays is kicking off with a Youth theme. Highlights include: Bowey the Clown, face painting at Sottile Park, the Berkshire Athenaeum Lego Tent, the Community Art Tent and Sidewalk Chalk Art Gallery, the Carr Hardware bounce house, a climbing wall, the Roaming Railroad, the National Alliance on Mental Illness Berkshire County walk and more!
With performances from: the Reid Middle School and Taconic High School bands, The Youth Alive Step Team, Kids 4 Harmony, Highland, Berkshire Pulse and Hillcrest Youth Drummers, The Funk Box Dance Studio, Rock On and more! Live 95.9 will be broadcasting live from the event.

This is an introduction to sewing on an industrial home sewing machine. This workshop is great for anyone with an interest, as well as for new and prospective members who are learning our equipment. Join Berkshire Yoga Dance & Fitness owner Rachael Plaine for a free Zumba class in Park Square every 3rd Thursday from now through October. Shake, shimmy and get down to great music, lots of laughs and an awesome work-out. The BCC Players presents Avenue Q in the Boland Theatre of the Koussevitzky Arts Center at Berkshire Community College. Filled with gut-busting humor and a delightfully catchy score, not to mention puppets, this musical has quickly become a favorite of audiences everywhere. Although the show addresses humorous adult issues, it is similar to a beloved children's show; a place where puppets are friends, monsters are good, and life lessons are learned.
Performances are May 13-15 and May 20-22, with Friday and Saturday night shows at 8 p.m. and Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. Tickets are $15 general admission, and $10 for BCC faculty and staff, senior citizens, and students. Get tickets here.

From This Day Forward
at the Little Cinema
A hit at last year's BIFF, this moving documentary of a family coping with a transformation is also a portrait of an artist grappling with her identity through her work. When director Sharon Shattuck's father came out as transgender, it was difficult for mother to accept, but her parents stayed together. As the Shattucks reunite to plan Sharon's wedding, she seeks a deeper understanding of how her parents' marriage survived.

This annual exhibition features the work of middle and high school art students in Pittsfield. A special thank you to the art teachers Michael Boroneic, Mary Beth Eldridge, Alisa Mierzejewski, Lisa Ostellino, Barbara Patton, Colleen Quinn, Lauretta Saldo and Amy Sommers. The exhibit runs through May 28.
