Margaret Kerwsill was honored for her commitment to the Stockbridge Chamber of Commerce.

With great thanks: The Stockbridge Chamber of Commerce honored its members during the annual member appreciation event held at the Unicorn Theatre on June 15.

Michael Duffy, Chamber president, gave thanks to their hard-working volunteer members. Special recognition during the evening was given to Margaret Kerwsill, who has been a Chamber member since 2013 when she opened with her partner Laureen Vizza Mutability in Motion, found in the Mews off Main Street, Stockbridge. The gift shop features the works of regional artisans and craftsmen. She is also an independent business owner, Margaret D. Kerswill Design & Marketing, overseeing all creative aspects of design and advertising, from concept to successful execution, for small and medium sized businesses.

Executive Director Barbara Zanetti said Kerwsill has been extremely active in the Chamber from the beginning. She is in her third year sitting on our board of directors with the current title of vice president. She oversees the Marketing Committee and volunteers at all chamber events.

In her time with the chamber, she assisted at implementing social media, introduced a new tag line, expanded their marketing reach, enhanced the Stockbridge Guide and continues to create, design and market the Chamber, as well as, the town of Stockbridge. Kerwsill is also a mentor, friend and confidant to Zanetti, as she works with her on a daily basis. Her passion for business and the Stockbridge community, as well as her witty personality, made her the perfect choice for this year’s Honoree of the Year.

Kerswill was appreciated and recognized for all she has done to advocate the Chambers commitment to the support of the businesses and the overall well being of the town of Stockbridge and its environs.

Berkshire Theatre Group hosted the evening’s event followed by "Fiorello!" on stage at the Unicorn Theatre, running now through July 23.

Caring about cancer: The employees of Adams Community Bank were once again on a mission to show how much they care about those within the community affected by a cancer diagnosis by fundraising to benefit two really special local organizations – Moments House and PopCares. Almost everyone has been touched by cancer in some way and may have even struggled with the day-to-day reality of the disease.

“Our employees offer their personal time to participate and contribute to our fundraising events that the bank does throughout the year. This demonstrates a strong commitment to our neighbors and the residents of Berkshire County and represents the bank’s true community spirit,” said Charles O’Brien, president and CEO. The team did not set a specific goal, but are beyond thrilled to have made a donation to both Moments House and PopCares in the amount of $12,601.38 for a grand total of $25,202.76.

Adams Community Bank employees raised money by paying to “dress down” on designated days and through other various initiatives, including their customers’ participation in “Drop Your Change for Cancer” and the purchasing of paper “Ribbons.” They also hosted a Corn Hole Tournament at the Cheshire Rod & Gun Club, Mexican Night at the Richmond Grille in North Adams, as well as a golf tournament that was held on May 7 at the Stamford Valley Golf Course.

An 'Xtradordinary' effort: Berkshire Bank completed its "Xtraordinary Day" on Tuesday, June 7. This event was the first year that the entire Bank participated in community service events concurrently from 1 to 4 p.m., closing the entire financial institution as a united effort for community involvement.

During Xtraordinary Day, 95 percent of the Berkshire Bank team, which equates to 1,161 employees, completed 56 projects. From painting of elementary schools and cleanups of local parks to financial literacy lessons, more than 4,500 hours of service were contributed, a value of $128,000. The projects helped 54 different nonprofit organizations and directly impacted more than 100,000 individuals across the Bank’s footprint.

Berkshire Bank’s goal with Xtraordinary Day was to affect the communities that support it every day in a significant way, by being active and immersed in projects that would have a meaningful and lasting impact on these communities. America’s Most Exciting Bank is not a sentiment meant to be spoken, but felt by all regions that the Bank seats itself within. Xtraordinary Day was an innovative approach to the XTEAM, Employee Volunteer Program’s everyday method. By closing its doors for an entire afternoon, Berkshire Bank intended to show the true power of giving back on a grand scale.

This year’s activities included: Painting at Stearns Elementary School, Egremont Elementary School and Boys & Girls Club, Camp Russell; Downtown guide assembly at Downtown Pittsfield; Cleanup of City of Pittsfield Parks, Greenagers Housatonic River Walk and Berkshire Athenaeum; Home build with Northern Berkshire Habitat For Humanity; Tree measuring with Trustees of Reservations Bartholomew’s Cobble; 4th-6th grade literacy at Farmington River Regional School.
