LANESBOROUGH, Mass. -- Baseball in the Berkshires, an exhibition of memorabilia dating back more than 100 years, will be part of Family Fun Day at the Berkshire Mall on Saturday, Aug. 6, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Jonah Bayliss will be in the Baseball in the Berkshires Exhibit from 11 a.m. to noon to meet, greet and sign autographs.
Bayliss, a native of Williamstown, was a 2002 seventh round draft pick of the Kansas City Royals. He played for 11 seasons reaching the majors not only with the Royals but also for the Pittsburgh Pirates. He also played in the Toronto Blue Jays and Houston Astros systems as well as playing in Venezuela and Japan. Jonah was a right handed pitcher with more 750 career strikeouts - his first Major League strikeout was Hall of Famer Frank Thomas.
He now is general manager and pitching coach for North Adams Steeplecats in the New England Collegiate Baseball League and owner of A-1 Performance and A-1 Pitching Academy in Adams.
Joe Bateman will be in the Baseball in the Berkshires Exhibit from noon to 1 3 to 4 p.m..
Bateman, a native of Pittsfield, was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the 32nd round of the 2002 MLB draft. He played for 13 seasons not only in the Giants system but for the Milwaukee Brewers, Tampa Rays and Oakland A’s systems. He also spent time in the Dominican Republic and Venezuela.
As a right handed pitcher he had a career ERA of 3.28 with more than 820 strikeouts. He now works part-time at the Berkshire Baseball Academy in Pittsfield. He also plays in the Berkshire Adult Baseball League for the Berkshire Baseball Academy Team.
