PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- Six of the seven Soccer Domain Academy teams found themselves competing around Massachusetts and Connecticut this weekend, achieving two victories, two ties and two defeats.

U11 Girls
In a very entertaining and competitive first half saw both teams creating plenty of chances and scoring goals with. SDA led, 1-0 and 2-1, before the opposition brought the game back to 3-3. After conceding another SDA was unlucky to go into half-time down, 4-3.

It continued to create good opportunities in the attempt of making it 4-4 in the closing moments of the half. FC Stars Central United began to show its quality by possessing the ball effectively and scoring two goals to win, 6-3.

U13 Girls
With a great start to the season last week, the U13 girls had an away game against the GPS team, with expectations high the girls entered the match with confidence and excitement to play. The conditions of the field were not ideal and posed a very narrow but long field, the grass was high and made for tough conditions to play the ball fast and along the ground.

The visitors adapted very well and looked to get the ball moving fast and decisive it was not long until they had gone ahead with some nice soccer and clinical finishing. Much of the first half was a constant array off the girls attacking and working on their wide play they controlled the entire game. As the first half finished, the visitors had a commanding lead of 7-0 and the game was all but won.

At half-time, SDA spoke about ways to challenge themselves in the second half and try to play under less touches and move the ball to switch fields quicker. The second half was again a total domination and as we played to keep the score down it was apparent that difference in the two clubs. Even though the game was an uncompetitive affair SDA did show good character and professionalism in their 8-1 win.

U14 Girls
SDA controlled possession in the middle third and built up well from the back, excellent decision making and passing selection in the middle third meant that the visitors were constantly a threat going forward and in wide areas.

Despite the first half dominance SDA failed to completely kill of the game in not taking chances and wasting opportunities in the final third. The girls struggled to get used to the pace of the field with countless over hit passes, heavy touches or the inability to control the ball before letting it run across their bodies. That being said SDA came out of the game with a fairly convincing 3-1 victory

U11 Boys
The first half was very even and in the opening exchanges a bit scrappy as SDA tried to force passes and manufacture opportunities without the required patience to dictate the game when it came to possession.

The hosts made good choices as far as our pass selection went and played with confidence. Midway through the first half the visitors took the lead. SDA started strongly in the second half getting the equalizer but only to concede straight away with the visitors making it 2-1. SDA continued to create series of chance and found their break through to tie the game.

U13 Boys
SDA U13’s competing in the opening game of the season hoped to open their campaign with a positive start. In the early stages of the game it was easy to identify that it was going to be a very physical battle. FC Stars possessed the ball well and started dominating the game.

A well-organized SDA managed to keep them out and create changes on the break. SDA pressed well in the stars final third encouraging the ball to be played to the defenders from the goalkeeper and creating chances by winning the ball high up the field. Around 10 minutes in SDA got a break through, a ball won in the midfield area lead to a quick attack and finished by the center midfield player.

FC Stars continued to dominate possession and finally broke SDA’s resilient defense with less than 10 minutes remaining of the half. The visitors bounced straight back re-gaining the lead on the stroke of half-time through another quick breakaway attack and a composed finish by the striker.

The second half started the way of the first with the hosts maintaining their high possession statistics although it wasn’t long before they found the equalizing goal. A tiring SDA were finding it difficult to be as discipline and organized as the first half. The home team continued to create chances throughout the early stages of the half. SDA managed to get their selves into advanced positions on rare occasions throughout the second half but didn’t do enough to punish the hosts. FC Stars managed to find another breakthrough because of very slow reactions to pressure the ball in the defensive third.

The visitors were given a very difficult task through a questionable penalty decision. As the goalkeeper tried to get to the ball in a crowded box a nudge on an attacking player lead to SDA being punished and FC Stars dispatching well. SDA had a more positive spell after the penalty but failed to break down the hosts defense. Final score,  FC Stars – 4-2 SDA

U14 Boys
With the squad hit with sickness and injuries the boys traveled down to Marlborough with a smaller squad than week one. The game got off to a flying start and the level of physical play was apparent in the early stages, it was clear to see it was going to be a busy mourning for the boys in orange.

SDA took the lead early with a well worked goal and a great follow up strike from a great save, the visitors did well to craft out an early chance and take the game to the bolts. Much of the first half was a back and forth battle, with the bolts getting the better of the possession, a couple of breakdowns in shape and intensity had SDA on the back foot.

With the clock ticking down the amount of pressure finally got to the visitors and they conceded a very sloppy goal from a throw. Throughout the second half SDA won a lot of 50/50 challenges, personal battles and with very good shape and resilience they proved hard to break down. With a little bit of late drama at the end with a penalty being awarded only to be missed by the Bolts, who settled for a 1-1 tie.
