PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Association for Behavioral Healthcare, a statewide organization representing more than 80 community-based behavioral healthcare provider organizations, announced its 2016 Recognition Award recipients at its Salute to Excellence event.

Each year, ABH recognizes individuals and groups that have made impressive contributions to the field of mental health and addiction treatment. This year, Denise Galvagni, Division Director of Community Services of The Brien Center, received the Excellence in Program Leadership Award for exemplifying outstanding leadership qualities.

"Denise inspires her team by bringing her commitment and enthusiasm for improving community-based mental health services to work every day," said Christine Macbeth, CEO of The Brien Center. “We are all incredibly proud of her for being selected to receive the ABH Excellence in Program Leadership award. It is well earned.  The Brien Center is fortunate Denise a part of our Leadership Team and thank you to ABH for the opportunity to recognize her."

"On behalf of ABH, we want to thank all of today's award recipients for the important work that they do," said Vic DiGravio, president/CEO of ABH. "The dedication all of our recipients and colleagues have to individuals and families struggling with mental health and substance use disorders is making a difference in communities all across Massachusetts, and we salute you for the tireless work you do every day."

Galvagni has worked in the mental health and addiction field for more than 20 years and is currently the Division Director of Community Services at the Brien Center, which consists of CBFS and Adult Day Health. Because of Denise’s leadership as Division Director over the past three years, CBFS at Brien has become a model of recovery oriented, evidence based rehabilitation practice. She has inspired, pushed, and coaxed a division of 170 employees toward a culture of hope and empowerment.

Denise was recognized at a ceremony at the Westin Hotel in Waltham. ABH members are the primary providers of community-based behavioral healthcare in Massachusetts. Member providers and their 47,000 dedicated employees provide clinically effective and cost-sensitive care to 81,000 individuals on any given day in communities throughout the state.

As an organization with three decades of experience in not only the advancement, but also the preservation and promotion of community-based mental health and addiction services, ABH is recognized as the leading statewide association in this field.
