CHESHIRE, Mass. — Carson Meczywor scored 11 points Sunday to help Adams outlast Greylock, 32-29, in the Adams youth basketball tournament.

"Adams put lots of pressure on us the whole game that caused us to offensively press and to even get a shot off," Greylock coach Rick Paris said. "We were down, 24-11, at the end of three quarters. We only had three baskets at that point from the field. But in the fourth, our kids really started to attack the rim and pressure the ball."

Derek Paris scored nine of his 11, and Malcom Waynick scored eight of his nine for Greylock in the fourth quarter.

"We are just so proud of how our kids responded to the adversity they had to overcome," Paris said. "It was a great effort."

Greylock earned the right to play Adams in the semi-finals of the tournament by beating New Lebanon, N.Y., 36-35, earlier on Sunday. Derek Paris scored 14, and Oscar Low had eight as Greylock survived against a team that featured three 6-footers.

"In the end, it came down to 10 seconds remaining In the game and we called a time out and drew up a play for Derek, who came off a screen set by Pablo Santos and he didn't hesitate and hit the 3," Rick Paris said. "Then with three seconds left, Derek stole the inbound."

Earlier in the tournament, Greylock posted a 45-34 win over the CYC behind 12 from Santos and 10 from Derek Paris. Diego Cortez scored 11, and Riley Burke had eight for CYC.
