Attention All Artists: Four Calls for Submissions

FOUR local organizations are seeking YOUR artwork!
The City of Pittsfield's Office of Cultural Development, in collaboration with theTransformative Development Initiative (TDI), is looking for art suitable for a mural to fit on a 12ft. x 15ft. surface (concrete or brick) on Tyler Street.
Pittsfield Artscape is once again partnering with Berkshire Money Management to bring more public art to the downtown with the Pittsfield Paintbox Project. Artists will transform typically drab electrical boxes into artful streetscapes.
The Berkshire County Historical Society at Herman Melville's Arrowhead will feature "Enchanted Berkshires: Where Fairies Dance" - a full slate of programs that will include an exhibit of one-of-a-kind, artist-created fairy houses. Be a part of the show! In solidarity with the national Nasty Women's art movement, a Berkshire Nasty Women exhibit will be presented at the Colonial Theatre from May 4 - May 14. All proceeds will be donated to the ACLU or League of Women Voters at purchasers' discretion. Submit your piece before May 1!

Civic Participation Workshops, a day of free, non-partisan workshops on how to write a letter to the editor, run for office, call your legislator, use social media, canvass door-to-door, understand cultural competence and more. Kashmir: The Live Led Zeppelin Tribute Show will take the stage at BCC's Boland Theater in a fundraiser for the Pittsfield High School Band. The nation's #1 Led Zeppelin tribute show, this is the most authentic representation of the group on the modern scene. Each of the 4 band members assumes his role with pinpoint accuracy. Kashmir features all of Zeppelin's hits performed by veteran musicians whose goal is to faithfully reproduce the Led Zeppelin live experience 7:30 p.m. $25/$35/$45.

WordxWord will offer a free poetry slam workshop for youth ages 11 - 14 held at the Family Resource Center at 480 West Street. Slam poet and mentor Grace Rossman will teach the workshop, which will be followed by a short performance/opportunity to share and pizza! 10 a.m. - 1 p.m.

Berkshire Yoga, Dance & Fitness presents a new class. Join Carol Link for Essential Pilates, held every Sunday morning from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Pilates is a precise, intelligent form of exercise that integrates mindful body awareness, breath, coordination and balance for overall conditioning, strength, flexibility and vitality. $10 cash or check, drop-ins welcome.

Berkshire Paint & Sip will lead a 2-hour painting class at Crossroads Café, at 195 Onota Street, to benefit Moments House. Paint "Wild Mountain Flowers" on a 16x20 canvas. All painting materials, instruction and a donation are included in the $35 fee. Cash bar. 2-4 p.m. Ages 21+.

Get your team of 2-6 people together for the 2nd Annual Berkshire Immigrant Center (BIC) Trivia Night at Tavern at the A! Double Entendre will provide the questions, and raffle off some great prizes. $7 per person to play, with all proceeds going to BIC. The A is also generously donating a portion of food sales, so come early for dinner! Trivia begins at 6 p.m.

The Berkshire Athenaeum and the Housatonic Valley Association (HVA) present Be River Smart, a month-long celebration. On Saturday, Alison Dixon of HVA, along with Chris Laney, present an overview of our rivers' water quality and offer practical tips about how to be "river smart." Chris will present an introduction to composting, including how to build your own composting bin.

Five things to remember about the new downtown parking system:
1. Always enter your license plate number - even for the FREE first 30 minutes.
2. On-street parking is $1 per hour; lot parking is 50 cents per hour. There are also nearly 400 free parking spaces on the city's side streets.
3. You can pay by coin, credit card, or by downloading the Passport parking app.
4. You do not need to display the parking receipt on your dashboard.
5. Parking is FREE on evenings and weekends!

Andres Ramirez of The Funk Box Dance Studio will curate a show of regional graffiti artists as part of the Funkdation Hip Hop Art Festival. The exhibit will open during First Fridays Artswalk on April 7 from 5-8 p.m. Live performances and an artists' reception will be part of the Funkdation Festival on Saturday, April 29.
