PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Pittsfield Suns have hired Chris Haynes as assistant coach for the 2017 season. Haynes will assist Head Coach Matt Gedman with on-field duties this summer.

Haynes, a 2009 graduate of Le Moyne College, was a catcher for the Dolphins. He has a career .292 batting average, with a season best .353 and seven home runs as a junior. Haynes was recognized with a spot on the 2008 All-tournament first team and the 2009 pre-season Division I first team. He currently still holds a Division I NCAA record for most home runs in one inning (two) against St. Peters on April 12, 2008.

The 2017 season marks Hayne's second season as an assistant coach at Oswego State University, where he has helped lead the Lakers to stay nationally ranked throughout the entire season. Beginning in 2011, Haynes became the associate head coach for St. Lawrence University where he continued to serve in the position through the 2015 season. The Manlius native completed his Masters Degree in educational leadership in 2013 at the university.

During the summers of 2013 and 2014, Haynes led the Syracuse Jr. Chiefs of the NYCBL as its head coach. He then coached the Newark Pilots of the PGCBL through the 2015 summer season. In addition, he spent two seasons in 2010-2011 as a bullpen catcher for AAA Syracuse Chiefs.

Haynes is looking forward to his summer in Pittsfield.

"I am very honored and beyond excited for the opportunity to help Matt and coach the Pittsfield Suns this upcoming summer. I know there's a lot of excitement around the town of Pittsfield for summer baseball and I can't wait to be a part of it," he said. "The Futures League is a very competitive and intense summer league and I am looking forward to impacting our players and growing as a coach over the upcoming months."

The Suns 2017 home opener is scheduled for June 3 at 7 p.m. at Wahconah Park against the Bristol Blues.  They begin the season on the road Thursday, June 1, in Wachussett.
