Rain Forces Tournament Postponements06:05PM / Saturday, July 08, 2017 | |
PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- Mother Nature wreaked havoc with the local youth sports schedule on Saturday.
After two extended rain delays, the Berkshire Force and Greylock Thunder 16-and-under softball teams left the Doyle Complex midway through the first inning of their third game of the Babe Ruth Softball New England Regional.
The Thunder won the first two by one run apiece on Friday, but the Force will have a 3-0 lead when the game resumes, Sunday at 10 a.m. The winner will advance out of the loser's bracket to the championship round, needing to win two games to claim the title in the double-elmination tournament.
Meanwhile, on an adjacent field, the Force's 12-and-under squad trailed Windham, Maine, 9-0, in the second innning of their elimination game.
Over in Dalton, the first-round Little League baseball games in the Don Gleason Don Gleason District 1 Little League Tournament for ages 10-12 were postponed to Sunday.
The Pittsfield National League and Great Barrington All-Stars gamely tried to get their noon game in before a torrential downpour made the field unplayable.
Thanks to a solo home run by Tyler Guadette, the Nationals have a 1-0 lead, but Great Barrington will have a man on first when the second inning resumes on Sunday. The Pittsfield American League game against host Dalton-Hinsdale will follow.
