PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Health Department is telling homeowners to be on the lookout for aggressive foxes.

 

The Health Department said a resident was bitten by a fox in the area of Wahconah Street, specifically near Dower Square, over the weekend. That fox was captured but health officials are asking residents to use caution.

 

"Although a fox was captured, caution should be taken by observing for wild animals displaying behavior such as lack of fear, disorientation, aggression, or poor physical condition. Please know that it is not uncommon to see a fox during the daytime; however, please report any observations of foxes that display aggressive or disoriented behavior. Residents should contact the Pittsfield Police Department at 413-448-9702 to report a wild animal that is behaving oddly or aggressively," reads a release issued by the Health Department Monday afternoon.

 

The department continued to suggest that pets not be left unattended outdoors, homeowners make sure the properties are not attracting foxes, garbage is secured, take the trash out the morning of pick up and not before, and use feeders designed to keep seed off the ground.
