AUBURNDALE, Fla.- MCLA left-hander Bobby New tossed a complete game shutout allowing just three hits and striking out eight Colby-Sawyer hitters in lifting the Trailblazers to a 2-0 win over the Chargers on Thursday.

The Trailblazers (5-2) completed the sweep after taking game one 6-1. CSC drops to 2-6 on the season with the loss.

Pittsfield High graduate New (2-0) was the story  as he dominated from the outset in collecting his second straight shutout in Florida. He quickly erased any hopes for a Charger rally as he picked off three runners throughout the contest. His seven strikeouts were a career high.

MCLA scored single runs in the fourth and fifth innings. Brett LaBonte's RBI single scored Bill Pulasky (Mount Greylock) with the game's first run. Jeff Bink continued his torrid surge by driving in the second run in the fifth with a double to left field making it 2-0.

Pulasky and Ben Durland each collected a pair of hits to lead the offense.

CSC's Noah Yeingst took the loss going the distance for the Chargers.

MCLA wraps up the spring trip Friday morning with a twinbill against UMaine Farmington.

MCLA 6, Colby-Sawyer 1
Taconic grad Liam Nolan tossed a complete game and Jeff Bink went 3-for-3 with three RBIs as MCLA won its third straight.

MCLA got on the board in the first inning as Bink collected the first of his RBIs scoring Christian Seariac with a single to center for an early 1-0 lead.  They added two more runs in the third frame with Bink once again providing the key blow.

He drilled a run-scoring triple to right field scoring Seariac again and then came around as the Charger throw from the outfield was misplayed giving MCLA a 3-0 advantage. The Chargers finally got a run off Nolan in the fourth inning on Drew Inglesi's RBI groundout making it 3-1.

The score remained that way until the sixth. Nolan worked out of a jam in the top half before the Trailblazers put the game away with a three run sixth. Nick DiSanti (Mount Greylock) singled and Ben Durland was hit by a pitch to start the inning and when Seariac reached on a bunt single the bases were loaded without an out. A pair of wild pitches brought in two runs and then Bink lofted a sacrifice fly for the games final run.

The rest was up to Nolan. He gave up a hit in the seventh but slammed the door with his sixth strikeout of the afternoon. He scattered six hits and walked a pair to earn his first win of the season (1-0).

Seariac went 2-3 but scored three times out of the leadoff spot for MCLA, who outhit the Chargers 8-6.
