Cultural Pittsfield This Week: April 6-12

Enjoy more than a dozen different art shows featuring work by more than a dozen accomplished regional artists in Pittsfield's bustling Upstreet Cultural District during the First Friday Artswalk and all month long!
 
In most venues, artists will be present from 5-8 p.m. A free guided tour begins at 5 p.m. at the Intermodal Center @ BRTA, 1 Columbus Ave. Mary McGinnis, co-founder of First Fridays Artswalk, will bring you through the various exhibits!
 
The Lichtenstein Center for the Arts will hold a reception for its April exhibition, the Berkshire Art Association (BAA) College Fellowship Show.
 
The AdLib Center for Independent Living, at 215 North St., will hold a kick-off event for Autism Awareness Month (April) from 5-8 p.m. The event will feature artists of all ages who have a disability or are on the Autism Spectrum. There will be a performance by students from the College Internship Program (CIP) during the event, and selected pieces will be displayed in the window throughout the month.

GET CREATIVE

Janet Schwartz presents a hands-on workshop for aspiring artists who want to learn a technique that'll "jump-start" their creativity. Using pastels, she'll guide participants to simplify what they see and capture the essence of their subject by focusing on darks, lights and mid-tones. Kiwii and Fiona of Heart-Shaped Box will teach a class focusing on executing movements with precision and strength, while practicing healthy posture. Pittsfield's city-owned community arts center, the Lichtenstein Center for the Arts, features nine working artist studios, a ceramics studio, a community room and an art gallery with changing exhibitions, classes, performances and more!

The Lichtenstein Center for the Arts will present the Berkshire Art Association (BAA) College Fellowship Show for the month of April. The exhibit features the work of Berkshire County residents enrolled as art majors at any college in the country, as well as non-residents currently majoring in art at a Berkshire County college. Prizes will be awarded to students whose work is selected. 
 
There will be a reception during Artswalk on Friday, April 6 from 5-8 p.m.

 
BERKSHIRE LIGHTSCAPES PROJECT

The Berkshire Lightscapes Project Needs You!
How cool is this? When events are scheduled in Pittsfield's Park Square, City Hall or Dunham Mall, the City will close off these areas to traffic. Colorful, energy-efficient LED lighting will illuminate these areas. Examples of events include dance and music performances, yoga, craft shows, public school events, food tastings and more. The Lightscapes project has secured a dollar-for-dollar funding match of up to $50,000 from MassDevelopment if its crowdfunding goal is reached by Wednesday, May 16. Please consider funding these beautiful and exciting permanent lighting projects.
