PITTSFIELD, Mass. – The Pittsfield Girls’ Softball League will open its season on Saturday with festivities beginning at 10 a.m. at the Doyle Softball Complex on Benedict Road.

Instructional, Rookie League, and Minor League players and coaches will introduced at a ceremony beginning at 11 a.m. followed by the National Anthem performed by PGS coaches pitch player, 7-year-old Addyson Sweet, and a first pitch thrown by Pittsfield Mayor Linda Tyer.

There will be a clinic at 10 a.m. for instructional players with direction from Pittsfield High School softball players.

PGS is happy to partner once again with the Lanesborough Softball League as well as teams from the Adams Cheshire Savoy Softball League.

The season’s first games for Rookie and Minor League teams will start with three games at 12:30 p.m. and at four games at 2:30 p.m.  A full concession stand will be in operation throughout the festivities and games.

Throughout the morning and ceremony, the PGS and Berkshire Force players will be making cards for Layne Chesney, a 14-year-old Babe Ruth softball player in Florida who was involved in a tragic accident in January that left her badly burned over 95 percent of her body.

PGS has provided a donation to their extended softball family member already and will raise further funds for Layne throughout Opening Day. PGS is proud to support the effort to provide some level of comfort to Layne and her family and to defray piling medical costs at this tremendously difficult time.
