SVHC to Hold Centennial Community Day on June 10

Southwestern Vermont Health Care will host a Centennial Community Day, a celebration of its 100th anniversary.

BENNINGTON, Vt. — Southwestern Vermont Health Care will host a Centennial Community Day, a celebration of its 100th anniversary, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, June 10, 2018, on the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center Campus at 100 Hospital Drive.

"Our first 100 years at Southwestern Vermont Health Care have been extraordinary," said Thomas A. Dee, the health system's president and CEO. "The purpose of this event is to celebrate with the community in a truly memorable way and to thank those — our physicians and staff, our community leaders and local businesses, our donors and, most importantly, our patients — who have contributed to making this health system one of the best in the country.”

The day's events are extensive and include activities for all ages. It is free and open to the public. It will be completely tented and will take place rain or shine.

7:30 a.m.: UCS Go the Distance 5K Day-of Registration Begins (Sign up in advance at active.com)

9 a.m.: UCS Go the Distance 5K and Kids’ Fun Run

10 a.m.: UCS Go the Distance Awards

10:30 a.m.: Parade (Route goes up 100 Hospital Drive from Dewey Street.)

11 a.m.: Opening Ceremonies

11 a.m.-noon: Register for the World-Record Jump Rope Race in SVHC Booth under Community Tent

11 a.m.-4 p.m.: Free, old-fashioned barbecue, fair-style treats, games and prizes, touch-a-truck, photo booth, and Cancer Center Community Crusaders Cupcake Contest fundraiser, DJ, and vendor booths.

11:45 a.m.: Cancer Center Community Crusaders Day of Celebration Cauldron Lighting

Noon: Youth Performances, including Bennington Elementary, Mount Anthony Union High School singers, and the gymnasts of MAYCA Studio.

12:15 p.m.: World-Record Jump Rope Race Start (Sign up under the UCS Go the Distance 5K at active.com)

12:45 p.m.: Renowned Circus Artist Joshua J. Superstar of CircOvation

1 p.m.: Official Ceremonies, including the reading of the Southwestern Vermont Health Care Centennial Proclamation

1:30 p.m.: “Happy Birthday” by the renowned Frosty Four and Birthday Cake for All

1:45 p.m.: Photo of those born at SVMC. Gather at stage front.

2-4 p.m.: Local legend The Julie Shea Band

4 p.m.: Closing and Cancer Survivors’ Tribute

"We hope that everyone in our community comes to this celebration and participates in the fun we have planned," Dee said. "Then, we'll look ahead to the excitement and challenge of meeting this community's health needs for the next 100 years.”

Attendees are encouraged to participate in Cancer Center Community Crusaders annual fundraising event, including the Cupcake Challenge, basket raffle, and vendor booths. Proceeds from the Cancer Center Community Crusaders’ activities support local cancer patients and research. Event updates, including a map of the event, will be posted online.
