Little League District Tourneys Open Thursday

PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- The Donald Gleason District 1 Little League Championships get underway on Thursday evening at Deming Park with a pair of double-elimination tourneys in two age divisions.
 
First up is the 9- to 11-year-old division, which features three teams: the Pittsfield American League, Pittsfield National League and Great Barrington.
 
The Pittsfield Americans take on Great Barrington at 5:30 on Thursday evening in the tournament's first game. The winner moves on to play the Nationals on Friday evening; the loser drops into an elminination game to be played on Saturday afternoon.
 
The first championship game is set to be played on Sunday at noon with an "if necessary" game on Monday.
 
The five-team double-elimination 10- to 12-year-old division tournament gets underway on Saturday afternoon with a pair of games.
 
Great Barrington plays the Nationals at noon while the Americans face Adams-Cheshire at 2. The tournament's fifth team, Dalton-Hinsdale, opens play on Sunday at 2 against the winner of the Great Barrington-Nationals game.
 
There are games scheduled each day through the championship around on Thursday, July 12, when the winner's bracket survivor will face the winner of the loser's bracket at 5:30. If the loser's bracket team wins, the winner-take-all final will be July 13 at 5:30.
