PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- The Berkshire Force and Greylock Thunder will take the field on Thursday for the start of the four-day Babe Ruth New England Regional Softball Championships in the under-14 and under-16 divisions.

Up to 34 games will be played between Thursday and Sunday at the Doyle Complex on Benedict Road with two teams advancing from the regional to earn the right to play in the 2018 Babe Ruth World Series in Jensen Beach, Fla.

There are seven teams from five New England states competing in the U14 division.

The Greylock Thunder, representing Western Massachusetts, will meet the host Berkshire Force at 6 p.m. on Thursday to open the tournament.

Each team will then complete pool play on Friday morning to decide seeding in the double-elimination round of the tournament, which begins Friday at 3 p.m.

Elimination games start Saturday morning and continue through to the first championship game at 1 p.m. Sunday afternoon. An “if necessary” winner-take-all final is scheduled for Sunday at 3 p.m.

In the U16 division, there are five teams, including, again, the Force and the Thunder.

The older Berkshire Force team opens against the Vermont All-Stars at 4 p.m. on Thursday afternoon while the Thunder takes on the Raynham Rampage, champion of Eastern Massachusetts.

The double-elimination phase begins Saturday morning for the U16s, who will be seeded after pool play. The first final for the older girls is slated for Sunday at 11 a.m. with an “if necessary” game at 1 p.m.
