WESTFIELD, Mass. -- Eastern Massachusetts champion Milton jumped out to a 3-0 lead after one inning and went on to a 9-5 win Tuesday to knock the Pittsfield 13-year-olds out of the Babe Ruth Baseball New England Regional.
After Chase Doyle walked and came home on an error to make it 3-1 in the top of the fourth, Milton scored four more in the bottom of the frame to keep Pittsfield at arm’s length.
Collin Merwin went 2-for-3, and Connor Lavinio drove in a run and scored a run for Pittsfield.
Merwin, Adam Lazits and Tyler Gaudette split time on the mound in the loss.
Milton moves on to Thursday’s bracket play. Pittsfield finished pool play with a record of 0-3.
15-Year-Olds
AUGUSTA, Maine. -- Pittsfield Tuesday defeated Watertown, Conn., 6-2, to advance to Wednesday’s New England Babe Ruth 15-year-old title game.
Pittsfield will face Concord, N.H., at noon on Wednesday to decide the regional title. Each team went through pool play with a record of 3-0 and a top seed in the elimination round.
