Letter: City Vehicles Should Not Be Used for Personal/Political Reasons

To the Editor:

On Sept. 17, 2019, was the preliminary election in Pittsfield for mayoral candidates and wards. My wife and I attended an after-election gala for mayoral candidate Melissa Mazzeo to support her vision for the city of Pittsfield.

What was confusing to my wife and I as we were leaving was seeing a city of Pittsfield vehicle at the gathering. This was a black Ford with the city's emblems on the doors and blue state plates. We were confused why a city vehicle would be there after hours of work at a private party. As taxpayers, city vehicles should not be used outside of work nor for personal use. We were dumbfounded seeing this, especially at a political after-election event gathering.

Hard-working citizens should not see their tax dollars being abused in a case like this. We both are very appalled that any candidate would allow this type of abuse or unwillingly turn a blind eye. This sends us a now blurred vision of the mayoral candidate's true plans of the city's future and the taxpayers. My wife and I want a true leader for the people and working class of the city of Pittsfield. This should not be taken lightly as the future of Pittsfield rides on our mayor and council.
