Overnight Pavement Marking Scheduled At Coltsville Intersection| 10:44AM / Saturday, June 18, 2022 | |
PITTSFIELD, Mass. —The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) announced that it will be conducting overnight hour pavement marking operations on sections of Route 8 and Route 9 in Pittsfield during the hours of 7:00 p.m. to the following day at 5:00 a.m. The work will take place nightly from Sunday, June 19, through Saturday morning, June 25. All work is anticipated to be completed by 5:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 25. Frances Chlöe Jones-Whitman says she wanted to incorporate historical and contemporary figures to impress that people who made a difference aren't just in the distant past. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Juneteenth weekend was kicked off in the city with the unveiling of "Black Abundance," a mural by 22-year-old artist Frances Chlöe Jones-Whitman.
The work depicts seven of Berkshire County's most notable Black leaders in a Mount Rushmore-style composition with a color scheme of red, yellow, green, and black.

 PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Pittsfield Parade Committee picked Barrington Stage Company's (BSC) soon to be retired Artistic Director and cofounder Julianne Boyd to be this year's Grand Marshall. Boyd, who recently announced her retirement, was chosen because of her personal accomplishments and the importance of BSC to the region. According to a press release, Grand Marshalls are typically individuals who have an attachment to Pittsfield or the Berkshires and who have been acknowledged for their personal or professional accomplishments. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The City Council has put the possibility of litigation against Verizon over the cell tower at 877 South St. to rest. On Tuesday, the panel voted to file a petition that requested $84,000 of city funds to hire legal counsel against the telecommunications company. It was previously sidelined when the council was informed that Verizon filed a case against the city of Pittsfield in federal court.
Early this year, the Board of Health voted to issue a cease-and-desist order for the tower after hearing of negative health effects from Alma Street resident Courtney Gilardi since it was erected in August 2020.

It was the first time in three years the ceremony had been held in person and the graduates were ushered as Anthony Gubelman played "Pomp & Circumstance" on the grand piano. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The city is inching down to the low end of the "red zone" after a spike in mid-May. "What we've been seeing is the downward trend that's gone further down from the last month that was before you," Director of Public Health Andy Cambi said to the City Council on Tuesday.
On Sunday, the positivity rate for COVID-19 cases was 8.5, compared to 14.8 in mid-May, and Pittsfield saw 11 new cases. There were 41.9 cases per 100,000 people, compared to 133.3 in mid-May.
There are around 84 estimated actively contagious cases in the city.
Cambi reported that hospitalizations due to the virus have drastically decreased. There were eight patients
