Taconic Names Softball Field After Late Teacher and Coach Kevin Harrington

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Taconic High School's softball field has been dedicated to a former teacher and alumni that died suddenly in 2019.

On Wednesday, the School Committee approved the naming of the Kevin P. Harrington Memorial Softball Field. Harrington graduated from Taconic in 2000 and went on the teach at the high school for 13 years.

With years of significant involvement in the girl's softball team as assistant and head coach, he was said to be a respected educator who truly loved his job in the classroom and on the field.

Dalton Sets Special Town Meeting for Town Hall Renovations

DALTON, Mass. — The Select Board approved three articles last week to be added the warrant for a  special town meeting warrant on Monday, June 27, at 7 p.m.    The special town meeting is being held to authorize spending for Town Hall renovations and other expenses.   A yes vote on Article 1 would authorize the town to pay $8,6324 to pay sewer and debt expenses that were not anticipated for the previous Town Hall Meeting.    A yes vote on Article 2 would authorize an additional $100,000 be added to the $500,000 Town Hall budget to accommodate the unexpected expenses that were not anticipated during the previous meeting.    The town would utilize

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Communities throughout Berkshire County gathered to recognize Memorial Day, and in North Adams, residents remembered Michael Robert DeMarsico II, who was killed in action a decade ago.   It's been ten years since North Adams lost a resident in service to the nation, Mayor Jennifer Macksey reminded the crowd gathered at the Veterans Memorial on Monday morning. Dalton Carnival Returns June 1 With Rides & Fireworks

DALTON, Mass. — The Dalton Carnival is back this week after a two-year absence caused by the pandemic.    The carnival is a popular community staple that's also a fundraiser for local organizations. Families Displaced by Lincoln Street Fire Struggle to Find New Housing

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Families are still without permanent housing after a fire destroyed a multi-family home on Lincoln Street over a month ago.

The issue is reportedly a lack of available units in the city, especially multi-bedroom ones for larger families.

The Christian Center has been assisting about eight families by housing them in hotels. Executive Director Betsy Sherman said a majority of the families who sought help from her organization after the fire have children.

"I think the biggest issue for them is that they need they need apartments, they need housing," she said.

It was reported that around a dozen families were displaced. The Red Cross distributed

Milling and Paving Operations on Sections of Route 8 and Route 9

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) will be conducting overnight hour milling and paving operations on sections of Route 8 and Route 9 in Pittsfield.     The work will take place nightly on Tuesday, May 31, Wednesday, June 1, Thursday, June 2, and Friday, June 3, from 7:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. the following morning.  All work is anticipated to be completed by 5:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 4.    The overnight milling and paving work will be conducted at the following locations on Route 8 and Route 9: North and south from Merrill Road at the Dick Sporting Goods driveway to Route 8/Cheshire Road at the Berkshire Gas

Third Pittsfield Man Found Guilty in Carnevale Shooting

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — A Berkshire Superior Court jury found one man guilty Friday but acquitted another in the shooting of Nicholas Carnevale of Cheshire in 2018.   Luis Delvalle-Rodriguez, 27, of Pittsfield was found guilty of armed assault with intent to murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, armed kidnapping with serious bodily injury, two counts of armed kidnapping, two counts of assault and battery, and malicious damage to a motor vehicle.   The verdict came Friday after a three-week trial during which evidence was presented that showed Delvalle-Rodriguez, 27, shot Carnevale on Aug.
