Parks Commission Hears Complaints Over Pontoosuc Park Shore Access

The site visit preceded a meeting of the Parks Commission  PITTSFIELD, Mass.— A site visit to the south side of Pontoosuc Lake Park on Tuesday turned combative at times as attendees passionately voiced their discontent on renovation work they say limits access to the water.   The city planted 1,088 shrubs along the shoreline — service berry, buttonbush, silky dogwood, and nine other species. Zerbato Throws No-Hitter for Post 68 Legion Team

WESTIELD, Mass. – Camden Zerbato fired a no-hitter Tuesday to lead the Pittsfield Post 68-1 American Legion Baseball team to an 8-0 win over Westfield.   Zerbato struck out eight and walked just two in the victory.   “Camden isn’t in our normal pitching rotation but as the regular season is wrapping up, and our pitchers were still resting from their pitch counts – I told him he would start tonight and he wanted the ball,” Post 68-1 coach Dusty Burdette said. “He is a gamer. Westfield Holds Off Pittsfield Babe Ruth 13s for Western Mass Title

WESTFIELD, Mass. – The Westfield 13-year-old Babe Ruth All-Stars Tuesday rallied for four runs in the bottom of the sixth to break open a close game and take a 9-3 win from Pittsfield in the title game of the Western Massachusetts Championship.   Collin Taylor and Jackson Barnes each went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead a seven-hit attack for Westfield.   Isaac Acevedo went 2-for-3 with a double to lead Pittsfield, which fought back to tie the game after falling behind, 2-0, and scored a run in the top of the fi fth to cut into a 5-2 deficit.   Both Pittsfield and Westfield move on to the New England Regional Championship, scheduled for July 25-29 at Wahconah

Holden Holds On, Tops Pittsfield in Sectional Opener

HOLDEN, Mass. – The Holden Little League 12-year-old All-Stars Tuesday built a four-run lead and held on for a 4-3 win over Pittsfield in the opening round of the Section 1 Tournament.   Ryder Froio hit a three-run homer for Pittsfield with two out in the top of the fifth inning, but Holden retired the next four hitters in order to end the game.   Pittsfield will play an elimination game on Wednesday at 5:30 at Deming Park against Leominster.   Holden advances in the winners’ bracket of the double-elimination tournament to meet Westfield, an 11-1 winner over Leominster in Tuesday’s opener.   Holden’s Andrew Surrette was dominant through four

Pittsfield Council 'Moves On' from PHS Investigation Report

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — A city councilor is ready to move on from his unfulfilled records request on the Pittsfield High School investigation. 

Last week, the City Council filed a communication that School Committee Chair William Cameron forwarded from state Supervisor of Records Manza Arthur.  Arthur determined that the Pittsfield Public Schools met its burden to withhold public records, and Ward 1 Councilor Kenneth Warren's administrative appeal was closed.  

"I think we need to move forward. I'm willing to move forward, so I hope people will support my motion to file this," Warren said to the five other councilors present.

BRPC Home Modification Loans Available

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Berkshire Regional Planning Commission closed a total of nine Home Modification Loan Program projects in Berkshire County throughout fiscal year 2025.    These loans ranged in size from $4,555 all the way to the program limit of $50,000. The project components included items such as stair lifts, bathroom modifications, driveway improvements, fencing, ramps, and one accessory dwelling unit.    All these projects were completed to allow aging individuals and individuals living with disabilities to remain in their home and communities of choice.   BRPC will continue to accept applications to the loan program in FY26 beginning July

'Good Trouble' Rallies Planned in Berkshires

John Lewis will be held on Thursday in several Berkshire communities.    The "Good Trouble" rallies are being held on the anniversary of the Georgian congressman's passing at age 80 in 2020. St. Joseph's Polish Picnic Returns

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The St. Joseph's Polish Picnic returns to the grounds of St. Joseph's Church at 414 North Street on Sunday, July 20, continuing a 60-year tradition.    The Polish Picnic is one of the last ethnic festivals in the Berkshires, and the event is expected to draw several thousand people. Roots Rising Receives Grant for Farm & Education Center

Pittsfield OKs Flag Ordinance

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The city has a new flag policy that stays true to its values and mission.

Flags such as the LGBTQ+ Pride, Juneteenth, and the Disability Pride Flag can still fly on municipal flag poles. 

Last week, the City Council established a flag display policy allowing Pittsfield's flag, the United States and commonwealth flags, flags of other nations recognized by the U.S. government, and flags commemorating significant events or causes consistent with the city's values and mission.
