Dalton Board Sets Salary Range for Town Manager Position

DALTON, Mass. — As the town moves forward in its search for a new town manager, the Select Board voted to increase its salary range for the position.    The Select Board approved a salary range of $135,000 to $155,000 to attract more applicants in a competitive market for town managers in Western Massachusetts.   Municipal Resources Inc. consultants Reginald "Buzz" Stapczynski and Robert Mercier previously warned the board of the need for a conversation on salaries.    During the search for an interim town manager, the town posted an annual salary range of $120,000 to $135,000.    "Our recommendation in your case is to look at a salary

Post 68-1 Downs Monson in Legion Play

PITTSFIELD, Mass. – Gavin O’Donnell went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI Wednesday to lead the Pittsfield Post 68-1 Seniors to an American Legion Baseball win over Monson Post 241 at Clapp Park.   Jason Codey tripled in a five-hit attack for Pittsfield, which worked nine walks in the win.   Cam Harrington and Jack Abel combined for the win on the mound.   Harrington struck out seven and allowed two runs in five innings of work to earn the win.   Abel closed the game with two innings of one-run ball.   Post 68-1 (11-1) finishes the regular season on Thursday at East Springfield Post 420.

PITTSFIELD, Mass. – Three Pittsfield Little League 12-year-old All-Star pitchers combined to strike out 12 and allow no earned runs on Wednesday as Pittsfield stayed alive in the Section 1 tournament with a 11-1 win over Leominster at Deming Park.   Pittsfield survived the elimination bracket game in the double-elimination tournament and earned a return trip on Thursday to Holden, which fell to Westfield in the winners bracket on Wednesday.   Mateo Herrera got the start on the mound on Wednesday and struck out seven while allowing two hits and no runs in 3 and a third innings.   He then gave the ball to Bradley Charow for an inning and a third. Tanglewood enters its third week, and the highlights are many; indeed, every concert will be memorable.

On July 16, in a celebration of the 150th birthday of the great post-Impressionist French composer Maurice Ravel (1875-1937), the phenomenal young pianist Seong-Jin Cho performs the master's complete solo piano works in Ozawa Hall. Two days later, Rachmaninoff's magisterial "All-Night Vigil" — among the masterpieces of Russian choral works — will be performed by the Tanglewood Festival Chorus.

UMass Coach Leading Youth Basketball Clinic

Lanesborough Police and EMS Soon to Be Neighbors

The Police Department moved into the shopping plaza three years ago, also because of an inadequate building. The town is looking to put police and EMS in one new facility.  

LANESBOROUGH, Mass. — The town's police and emergency medical services will be on the same site— in rental spaces. 

On Monday, the Select Board voted to go into negotiations with Lanesboro Plaza LLC for EMS rental space at its next meeting. The department has been asked to leave the fire station at 180 South Main St., which is owned by the Fire Association, because of insufficient space.

Parks Commission Hears Complaints Over Pontoosuc Park Shore Access

The site visit preceded a meeting of the Parks Commission  PITTSFIELD, Mass.— A site visit to the south side of Pontoosuc Lake Park on Tuesday turned combative at times as attendees passionately voiced their discontent on renovation work they say limits access to the water.   The city planted 1,088 shrubs along the shoreline — service berry, buttonbush, silky dogwood, and nine other species. Pittsfield Council 'Moves On' from PHS Investigation Report

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — A city councilor is ready to move on from his unfulfilled records request on the Pittsfield High School investigation. 

Last week, the City Council filed a communication that School Committee Chair William Cameron forwarded from state Supervisor of Records Manza Arthur.  Arthur determined that the Pittsfield Public Schools met its burden to withhold public records, and Ward 1 Councilor Kenneth Warren's administrative appeal was closed.  

"I think we need to move forward. I'm willing to move forward, so I hope people will support my motion to file this," Warren said to the five other councilors present.

BRPC Home Modification Loans Available

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Berkshire Regional Planning Commission closed a total of nine Home Modification Loan Program projects in Berkshire County throughout fiscal year 2025.    These loans ranged in size from $4,555 all the way to the program limit of $50,000. The project components included items such as stair lifts, bathroom modifications, driveway improvements, fencing, ramps, and one accessory dwelling unit.    All these projects were completed to allow aging individuals and individuals living with disabilities to remain in their home and communities of choice.   BRPC will continue to accept applications to the loan program in FY26 beginning July
