PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Berkshire Humane Society and Haddad Subaru have launched their 11th annual "Choose Your Subaru" car raffle. "We're grateful to have had a partner like Haddad Subaru," said John Perreault, Executive Director of Berkshire Humane Society. "Not only do they help us raise tens of thousands of dollars each year for the car raffle, they underwrite an animal adoption each week for up to $2,600 annually and often choose us as one of their hometown charities in the Subaru Share the Love event.  DALTON, Mass. – Brayden Durant Thursday cemented his place as the best Little Leaguer in Berkshire County this summer and earned a spot in the history of Adams-Cheshire baseball. Durant started the Don Gleason District 1 Championship Game with a one-out solo blast to center field and ended it with the 11th strikeout of his complete-game 2-0 win over the Pittsfield Americans.  PITTSFIELD, Mass.— After a three-year hiatus from in-person celebrations, the Saint Joseph Polish Picnic is back this Sunday. From noon until 5 p.m. the lawn of the parish will once again be filled with music, dance, food, and children's festivities. All funds raised support the parish. The event has been going on for generations originating as a family community picnic at Holy Family Parish. When Holy Family closed St. Joseph took it over.  PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The City Council is considering asking voters, "Should public safety leaders be required to reside in Pittsfield?" On Tuesday, councilors unanimously referred Ward 1 Councilor Kenneth Warren's request for a ballot question asking if the restriction that requires such management positions to live in the city should be eliminated to City Solicitor Stephen Pagnotta.
Pagnotta is expected to draft a question with clarifying language and return it to the body in August. He will also identify what a "yes" and "no" vote would entail.
The original motion was to approve Warren's petition but the panel amended it to be a referral

Let's Go Paperless | This is from Ward 6 Councilor John Krol's eblast today. His switch to digital immediately caught our attention. With the associated costs - nearly $4,000 a year for paper alone! - zipping councilors "the packet" (as we in the know like to call it) over the ether makes loads of sense.
Digital also means the average citizen gets far better access to these public documents than ever before. The city clerk's office has been diligent about posting meeting agendas and, where possible, relevant documents. So in terms of saving money and time and getting information out efficiently, digital is the way to go.
I would like to thank City Clerk Linda Tyer for agreeing to print out one less city council packet, as I have officially gone paperless for council meetings - which I hope will be a trend that can be extended throughout city government.
 The bulky (and often, very bulky) city council packet that councilors use for a reference costs an average of $170 per meeting for paper alone. Add the additional costs of ink/toner, wear and tear on city hall copiers, and the time and energy of staff who put it all together - and a simple transition away from paper benefits everyone.

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Dozens of youths, many of them under the age of 5, attended an open house at the Berkshire Music School Saturday, as the educational nonprofit enters its 70th year at its 30 Wendell Avenue home.
The open house featured a sample class, access to musical instruments, information for parents, refreshments... and more than a few delighted squeals, proving once again the inherent interest in making a joyful noise is not generational, and will never go out of style.
