Heating Oil Leaks Into Dalton BrookBy Sabrina Damms, iBerkshires Staff

DALTON, Mass. — A residential oil tank at Wahconah Falls Mobile Home Park leaked heating oil, which entered Wahconah Falls Brook on March 10. Approximately 200 to 250 gallons of heating oil leaked from the tank, Fire Chief Chris Cachat said. The department responded to the report of gasoline in the brook on Cleveland Road at 6:43 p.m. Wahconah Falls Brook flows underneath the roadway. Cachat, squad one, engine three, and utility 11 arrived on the scene where they detected "a strong odor of fuel and upon inspection of the brook a sheen was visible." Man Killed by Freight Train in PittsfieldStaff Reports ,

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — A man was struck and killed by a westbound freight train on the railroad tracks near The Big Y Supermarket in Pittsfield. The incident occurred on March 12, 2025, at approximately 6:22 pm. Two men were observed walking westbound on the tracks as the train approached. The train operator attempted to warn them with the train's horn. One man avoided the collision, but the other was struck and sustained life-threatening injuries. He was transported to BMC by Action Ambulance, where he later died. The deceased's name is being withheld until family notifications are complete. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Nomination papers for elected offices in Pittsfield will be available on Wednesday, April 2. Offices on the 2025 municipal election ballot will be one city clerk, four councilors at large, seven ward councilors and six seats on the School Committee. Nominations papers require 150 signatures from registered Pittsfield voters are required for city clerk, councilor at large and School Committee. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Wednesday's threat incident was Superintendent Joseph Curtis' "absolute worst nightmare."
That morning, a social media threat put Taconic and Pittsfield high schools into "hold-in-passing" procedures. It was lifted a couple of hours later when the Pittsfield Police Department confirmed that the post depicted an Orbeez gel blaster gun and there was no threat to the school community. "The incident that happened today is a superintendent's and I'm sure everyone else in the room and everyone's absolute worst nightmare," he told the School Committee that night.
