Pittsfield Fire Displaces Five, Injures FirefightersBy Brittany Polito, iBerkshires Staff

 PITTSFIELD, Mass. — An attic fire that scorched the top portion of a duplex early Monday morning displaced five residents and injured two firefighters.
The Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 95 Greylock Terrace at about 3:30 p.m. Two firefighters were treated on the scene with minor injuries; there were no civilian injuries.
"Dispatch reported 911 caller attempted to extinguish a growing fire in their attic with an
extinguisher but were unsuccessful," the department reported.
The fire is currently under investigation but early findings point to a possible electrical issue.
The blaze was extinguished within one hour. Fire and smoke damage were

 PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The $20 million allocated to demolish the Bel Air Dam will expire at the end of the year if a contractor is not chosen.
A Notice of Intent application from the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation's Office of Dam Safety was continued to Aug. 22 due to a missing water quality certificate. This was an expected move but planners wanted to begin a conversation due to the tight deadline.
"The $20 million expires at the end of the year so that's the the hurdle we're up against," Project Manager Jennifer Doyle-Breen told the Conservation Commission on Thursday.

DALTON, Mass. — Fire Chief Christian Tobin may have found the department a ladder truck while vacationing in the state of Florida. Tobin is still very early in discussions with the North Collier Fire Rescue District in Naples, Florida, regarding a potential donation of a 1998 Pierce Quantum 107-foot aerial ladder truck. The Board of Water Commission voted during its meeting on Tuesday to allow Tobin to discuss the possibility with the North Collier Fire Rescue District and to return to the board with a written offer. The Conservation Commission on Thursday continued a notice of intent application for a private, seasonal dock at the lakefront restaurant. A NOI for an identical project was denied by the commission in 2019 and the applicant appealed it with the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection, who then issued a superseding order of conditions.
That order has now expired.
