Pittsfield 10-Year-Olds Win District 1 Little League Title

PITTSFIELD, Mass. – Chase Albano struck out eight, and the Pittsfield Little League 10-year-old All-Stars Sunday completed a dominant run through the Don Gleason District 1 Tournament.   Myles Morrison-Gould went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs, and Pittsfield won its fifth game via the run rule, beating Great Barrington, 19-2, in three innings to complete a two-game sweep of the best-of-three championship series.   Pittsfield moves on to the three-team, double-elimination Section 1 tournament. Adams-Cheshire Bounces Back, Pittsfield Rolls in Little League Tourney

PITTSFIELD, Mass. – The Adams-Cheshire Little League Sunday jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the top of the first and held on for an 18-11 win over Great Barrington in the Don Gleason District 1 12-year-old tournament at Deming Park.   Jasiah Brown went 3-for-4 with a triple, and Oliver Quinto was 2-for-2 with a double and a pair of RBIs as Adams-Cheshire bounced back from Saturday’s loss to Pittsfield to even its record at 1-1 in the four-team round-robin that concludes on Monday night.   In the other half of the tourney on Sunday, Pittsfield’s 12-year-old All-Stars rolled to a 15-5 win over Dalton-Hinsdale to move to 2-0.   On Monday, Pittsfield hosts Great

Volunteers Clean Up the Housatonic River

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — On Saturday, June 29, the Berkshire Environmental Action Team (BEAT) and Housatonic Valley Association (HVA) held their first Housatonic River Cleanup of the season.

With the help of over a dozen volunteers, they cleaned out trash and other dumped items from six locations along the River in Pittsfield. 

BEAT also conducted a trash inventory of what was removed from the banks and bottom of the river.  Some of the most notable items included ten shopping carts, multiple cell phones, hundreds of empty "nip" bottles, bicycles, scooters, and vehicle parts—including eight tires, a fender, rims, reflectors, and license plates. Hillard Throws One-Hitter for Babe Ruth Team

PITTSFIELD , Mass. — Cam Sievers’ 11 strikeouts and a strong third inning at the plate Saturday led Dalton-Hinsdale past Great Barrington, 8-1, in the first game of the Donald Gleason 12-year-old Little League District 1 Tournament.   Sievers, Nate Dearborn and Sully Duquette combined on a no-hitter with 15 strikeouts as DH started pool play with a 1-0 record. Dalton Fire Chief Earns Accreditation

Two Berkshire Beaches Closed, One for Bacterial Exceedance

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Two Berkshire beaches are closed for swimming ahead of the Fourth of July weekend.

Lulu Pond in the Pittsfield State Forest had a bacterial exceedance and Lake Mansfield in Great Barrington is closed for "other" reasons. While the waterbodies are closed for swimming, other recreational activities are allowed. 

On June 24, Lulu Pond had 488.4 colony-forming units per 100 milliliters of Enterococci bacteria, dramatically higher than the threshold of 61 cfu/100 ml for freshwater beaches. The number had risen from 2 cfu/100 ml on June 17, closing the beach.

On July 1, the pond had 204.6 cfu/100 ml.

It was another good week for stocks following another good month of gains. Granted, in this holiday-shortened week, the volume behind the positive moves was paltry at best. However, many traders will tell you that only the price pays.   The macroeconomic data seems to be coming in as the Fed had hoped, with some data showing a slight cooling of the economy and at least two months of better inflation numbers.
