NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – The annual Berkshire Charity Draft Tournament is set to take place Sept. 13 and 14 at the Peter W. Foote Vietnam Veterans Memorial Rink. The event will bring together hockey enthusiasts and local community members to raise funds for the Berkshire Humane Society, a local animal shelter dedicated to rescuing and caring for animals in need. The tournament will showcase the talent and sportsmanship of participating teams. Attendees will have the opportunity to enjoy a weekend of action-packed hockey while supporting a worthy cause. The facade is gray in contrast to BMC's brick exterior. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — After six months of closure, the Medical Arts Complex's second-floor entrance is restored, and the parking lot has dozens of additional spaces.
On Monday, an expanded and repaved parking lot and entry opened at Berkshire Medical Center, operated by Berkshire Health Systems. The about $1.2 million project aims to expand access and convenience for patients.

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Public, outdoor ice skating will return to the city this winter.
On Tuesday, the City Council accepted a total of $200,000 from five local organizations for a portable ice rink system at Clapp Park. The $250,000 project reimagines ice skating memories at The Common in the age of global warming.
Officials hope to have it operational by the holiday season.

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — A small kitchen fire forced a Strong Avenue family to flee their home on Monday evening. According to Deputy Chief Daniel Garner, the Fire Department responded at about 6:13 p.m. to 51 Strong Ave. for a reported grease fire with three engines, Tower 1 and Engine 5's Rapid Intervention Team. Engine 6 found the occupants outside and extinguished the fire as Engine 3's crew removed damaged appliances and burnt materials. Tower 1's crew ventilated the structure of smoke and dry chemical irritants.  STOW, Mass. — September is College Fire Safety Month in Massachusetts, and State Fire Marshal Jon M. Davine is reminding students, parents, and others to be sure that their living spaces have working smoke alarms and carbon monoxide (CO) alarms, and that they know two ways out in an emergency. Massachusetts fire departments reported 2,491 fires in student dormitories, fraternities, and sororities in Massachusetts between 2020 and 2024. These fires caused five civilian injuries, 11 fire service injuries, and around $3.7 million in estimated damages.
