 | State Fire Marshal: Recent Chimney Fires Prompt Heating Fire Safety Reminder STOW, Mass. — After two recent fires that spread from chimneys to the surrounding structures, Holland Fire Chief James Gagne, Holyoke Fire Chief John Kadlewicz, and State Fire Marshal Jon Davine are reminding residents that having their chimneys and flues inspected and cleaned can help reduce the risk of one of the season's most common types of fires.	 	The fires took place on Island Road in Holland on Nov. 24 and on Lynch Drive in Holyoke on Nov. 28. Fortunately, no injuries were reported at either event. The Holyoke fire caused damage to the area around the home's fireplace, but the Holland fire caused serious damage to the structure.  	PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Veterans and community members paid tribute during Saturday's snowfall to those lost at Pearl Harbor.
 Eighty-three years ago on Dec. 7, Japanese planes struck the naval base and airfield at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii and sparked the nation's entrance into World War II. Every year, the Berkshire Veterans Coalition and the city remember those who lost their lives during the attack with a ceremony and tree lighting at the Veterans Memorial Park.

  Berkshire District Attorney Timothy Shugrue says the memorial is to remember those whose futures were stolen 'by a single, reckless decision' by someone who drove drunk.
 	PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Fifty-six candles were lighted Sunday to honor victims of drunk drivers. 	The 37th annual Mothers Against Drunk Driving vigil was hosted by the Berkshire District Attorney's Office and the Massachusetts State Police. Grieving friends and family lit a candle in honor of their loved one at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church.

 | MassDOT Extends Deadline for 'Name A Snowplow' Contest BOSTON — The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) is announcing an extended deadline for the third annual "Name a Snowplow" contest for students in Massachusetts.  	 	The contest seeks to solicit names for 12 MassDOT snowplows that will be in service for the upcoming 2024/2025 winter season. Submissions will now be received through 5:00 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 13.
