City of Pittsfield Street Improvement Project: Sept.18-2408:00AM / Tuesday, September 17, 2024 | | PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Pittsfield’s street improvement work continues with the following schedule in place for September 18-24: Sept. 18 and 19: Milling of Barker Road from Barkerville Conservation area to the Richmond Town Line Sept. 20, 23 and 24: First course of paving of Barker Road from Barkerville Conservation area to the Richmond Town Line On-street parking is prohibited during this work between the hours of 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. During this work, northbound traffic will be detoured to Tamarack Road. The town will soon offer programming to help residents of Dalton and the surrounding areas declutter their homes. These are great programs, the town's Health Agent Health Agent Agnes Witkowski said. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Several juveniles have been charged for posting online threats to the school district. Over the last several weeks, the Pittsfield Police Department and the school administration have received various reports of online posts and conversations about possible school threats. They were found on social media platforms including Snapchat, TikTok, and Discord. Police say the current investigation has not yielded information regarding specific plans to target a particular school. "The PPD takes these reports very seriously. The lift in the police station has been out of order since December because of safety concerns. The Town Hall has two chairlifts, one in the police station and one in the public library. The library chairlift does not have access to the town planner, health agent, and building inspector offices. If assistance is needed, call Town Hall for accommodations, such as drive-up services. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — A credit card "skimmer" was found at the Dalton Avenue Cumberland Farms on Friday. Police are urging customers who used their credit cards at the store over the last 10 days to contact their provider immediately. This is just one day after a similar device was found at Cumberland Farms in Great Barrington. An employee found it attached to the Pittsfield location's card machine and called the police.  DALTON, Mass. — The Traffic Commission is looking into safety concerns with the intersection in front of Nessacus Regional Middle School. On Thursday, the panel voted to send a letter to the Massachusetts Department of Transportation voicing the concerns and providing crash data for the intersection of Hinsdale Road, East Housatonic Street and Fox Road. BOSTON — A new peer-reviewed report from researchers at the University of Texas and the University of California-San Diego cites Massachusetts as a nationwide leader in food waste reduction. The findings recommend a re-assessment of food waste bans in other states, using Massachusetts as a benchmark for success. The report, published in Science, calculated a significant 25.7 percent decrease in greenhouse gas emissions per ton of disposal after the state's commercial food waste ban was put in place.
