PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The School Building Needs Commission recognizes that it has a significant amount of work ahead of it related to the proposed Crosby/Conte rebuild.
Last week, members mapped out a path forward as the city approaches a possible feasibility study for a rebuild of Crosby Elementary School and Conte Community School on the West Street site.
After being accepted into the Massachusetts School Building Authority's queue in late 2024, the proposal is entering a "scope definition" phase where it has local authorization for feasibility study funds and the project team starts to come together.

BOSTON — The Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV) is announcing that all classroom instruction provided by professional driving schools will transition back to an in-person format. The RMV has been in communication with driving schools, customers and other stakeholders, explaining how this change will result in enhanced student engagement, stronger learning outcomes, equal opportunities for all schools, and improved road safety. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Rallies are planned across the nation on Oct. 18 to protest actions by the Trump administration.
In Pittsfield, the No Kings 2.0 rally will be held at The Common from 2:30 to 5 p.m. and in North Adams City Hall from noon to 2. There will also be No Kings rallies on the same day in Dalton, Stockbridge, West Stockbridge, Lee, and Adams, and around the nation.
The Parks Commission recently gave local organizer Robin O'Herin, of StandUp Berkshires! approval for the event at The Common. She explained that organizers are "totally committed to peaceful, joyful protest, and we won't tolerate anything else."

A boardwalk along the park's shoreline. Some residents complained that access to the water was being impeded by plantings designed to halt erosion. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Conversation about balancing bank stabilization with shoreline access at Pontoosuc Lake Park continues.
On Tuesday, the Conservation Commission has a site visit to the south shoreline, where community members asserted that bank plantings limited access for fishing and swimming. Last month, the Parks Commission endorsed a plan for four easy-entrance points, and the ConCom will consider modifying the project’s wetland permit.
