Principal Ryan Fuller has been at Eagle for six years, the last four as principal. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Eagle Educational Academy held an open house to showcase the school and how it supports students. The public alternative school serves students from Grades 6 through 12 who benefit from more individualized support. "We're for students who need more support. So we've got a higher staff-to-student ratio, we have a lot more stuff built in with SEL [social emotional learning]. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Berkshire Health Systems has announced that the main driveway to Berkshire Medical Center, which has been closed for the duration of the city's new rotary project adjacent to BMC, will reopen to vehicular traffic on Monday, Oct. 6, 2025. The main driveway can be accessed from the rotary, north or southbound, and provides convenient access to the front of Berkshire Medical Center and the first-floor entrance to the BMC Medical Arts Complex. Free valet parking is available at both the front entry to BMC and the MAC Complex. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The City of Pittsfield's Department of Public Utilities announced that phase 1 of the flushing of the city's water system will begin Monday, Oct. 6. Water mains throughout the city will be flushed, through hydrants, over the upcoming weeks to remove accumulations of pipeline corrosion products. This annual process occurs twice a year typically in the spring and the fall. The Kusik Award is given annually to projects, groups, or individuals who have made contributions to Berkshire County. This year, four impactful women from across the region and working in separate fields are receiving the honor. DALTON, Mass. — Residential concerns and frustrations grow as Berkshire Concrete Corporation plans to expand its gravel mining operations. On Sept. 17, Berkshire Concrete, a subsidiary of Petricca Industries, submitted an application for a special permit, to excavate, extract, and transport minerals including sand, gravel, topsoil, rock, and fill on several parcels, some of which abuts residential neighborhoods. There will be a public hearing on the permit on Nov. 19. Sept. 19 was National Coffee Day. Starbucks, Dunkin', Dutch Bros., and other coffee chains offered discounts on coffee. That did little to relieve the sticker shock most consumers are feeling now. The 20 percent price hike year over year for their morning brew has been hard to swallow. In the futures market, Arabica coffee has traded as high as $4.18 per pound in September, the highest price in almost a year. In grocery aisles, ground roast coffee prices recently reached $8.41 per pound before falling back over the last two weeks. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — A Berkshire Superior Court jury found Michael Rose guilty of Murder in the Second Degree and possession of a firearm without an FID card on Wednesday, Oct. 1, in connection with the 2022 shooting death of Jeric Black. Rose was subsequently sentenced to 20 years to life in State Prison for the murder charge. He also received a concurrent sentence of two and a half to five years for possession of a firearm without an FID card.  PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Methuselah Bar and Lounge will be ordered to close an hour early for 30 days to curb "late-night problems."
The bar has been a frequent flier at the Licensing Board over the years, incurring a 30-day liquor license suspension in 2021, as well as two and five-day suspensions leading up to it. After Monday's hearing, which had been continued three times, board members voted for Methuselah to close at 11 p.m. for one month.
Owner Yuki Cohen indicated that she would be appealing the board's determination of over-serving alcohol, and the board afforded her that option before the penalty kicks in.
