Driver Seriously Injured in Pittsfield Accident

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — A woman was taken to Bay State Medical Center on Monday after a rock crashed into the windshield and her car went into a ravine.    According to Lt. Marc Maddalena, a 2013 Ford F550 was exiting a driveway in the 300 block of Cheshire Road, Route 8, to proceed southbound when a rock from its load became airborne and struck a northbound 2013 Toyota Corolla.    The rock struck the operator, and she lost control of the Toyota, which left the roadway and dropped into a ravine on the east side of the road.    The Fire Department had to use mechanical means to extricate the woman from the vehicle. Be advised that recent observations results have confirmed the presence of a blue-green algae bloom at Pontoosuc Lake that may present harmful health effects for users of the lake.   This public health advisory impacts all access points to the lake in Pittsfield and Lanesborough. Pittsfield Community Food Pantry Benefit Concert

BCC Invites All to 'Explore the Electrician Trade'

Pittsfield Council OKs Short-Term Rental Regulations

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The city has created regulations for short-term rentals, allowing them for 150 days of the year. 

Last week, the City Council approved a zoning amendment that allows the operation of short-term rentals and a licensing process. Popular STR companies such as Airbnb and Vrbo provide a marketplace for units that are rented for 30 consecutive days or less.

Pittsfield Cultural Council Celebrates 2025 Grant Awardees

Council Chair Marilyn Gerhard says the 79 grant applications for fiscal 2025 were the most she has seen during her time on the council.

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Pittsfield Cultural Council celebrated its 2025 grant awardees at Zucchini's last week.

Council Chair Marilyn Gerhard welcomed everyone to the Wednesday event and congratulated those who received funding.

"We provide grants to help underwrite projects, programs and events in the arts, humanities and interpretive sciences," she said.

Gerhard said there were 79 applicants last year that council members had to sift through, one of the highest numbers she has seen in her time on the council.

BCC Volleyball Team Takes First Win

BOSTON, Mass. – Taconic High graduate Jenyka Ostellino pulled a team-high 12 digs Saturday as the Berkshire Community College women’s volleyball team defeated Roxbury Community College in three sets.   Taconic’s Jasmin Aslan had a team-high four kills and Karen Amichiia led the way with seven aces for BCC in the 25-10, 27-25, 25-11 win.   BCC (1-1) is home on Tuesday at 5 p.m. against Bristol Community College.
