DALTON, Mass. — The Historical Commission received clarification on what is needed for the first phase of establishing the proposed second historic district. Commissioners previously believed they were responsible for taking pictures of every building within the district that meets historical status and writing on the back of each photo the building's historical significance, the year it was built, and the type of architecture. BOSTON — Massachusetts Department of Revenue (DOR) Commissioner Geoffrey Snyder announced that preliminary revenue collections for July totaled $2.648 billion, $18 million or 0.7 percent less than actual collections in July 2023. "July revenue included decreases relative to July 2023 collections in withholding, non-withheld income tax, and 'all other' tax," said Commissioner Snyder. "These decreases were partially offset by increases in sales and use tax, and corporate and business tax.  PITTSFIELD, Mass. — A $235,000 boost from the state will fund "road diet" improvements on West Street, a corridor that saw two pedestrian fatalities last year.
The Massachusetts Department of Transportation on Monday announced $6.5 million in funding through the Healey-Driscoll administration's Shared Streets and Spaces Program. Pittsfield was the only Berkshire County community in the list of 28 municipalities and two Regional Transit Authorities.
The $235,000 will go toward continued safety efforts on West Street, which includes a "road diet" from Valentine Road to the Government Drive/College Way split, ADA-compliant curb ramps, separated bike lanes,

 PITTSFIELD, Mass. — A miniature golf course may be in the city's future.
The Conservation Commission last week again continued a notice of intent application from K&M Bowling for a mini-golf course at 555 Dalton Ave. The proposed area behind the bowling alley is within the buffer zone to vegetated wetlands and within bordering land subject to flooding.
Discussion during the July meeting was centered around the fact that there is an open order of conditions on the property for the reconstruction of a gravel parking lot in the area of the proposed course.

The scammers are claiming to represent the tolling agency and requesting payment for unpaid tolls.  DALTON, Mass. — The fire chief has been suspended for a month over allegations of sexual harassment, grant overspending and "employee concerns." Chief Christian Tobin countered with a thick packet of documents alleging "unlawful departmental practices." The claims came during a contentious Board of Water Commissioners meeting on Thursday morning that lasted about 20 minutes.
