 LANESBOROUGH, Mass. — Residents want the now-barricaded Old Williamstown Road reopened for pedestrian access. Patty Barnaby, who lives on the road, started a Change.org petition that has garnered nearly 440 signatures. On Monday, she and other residents went before the Select Board, which will vote on a path forward on Dec. 30. Barnaby explained that although the old Route 7 has been closed to vehicles for more than 40 years, pedestrians, horseback riders, bicycles, etc., use it. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — A guided hike through Mahanna Cobble in Lenox and Pittsfield will take place on Sunday, Derc. 15, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. The three-mile moderate to difficult hike will be led by Naturalist and Tamarack Hollow Director Aimee Gelinas, M.Ed. Participants will observe local flora, including trees, evergreens, and ferns, as well as signs of wildlife such as tracks. The hike is free, with donations accepted. If snow is present, attendees are advised to bring snowshoes or rent a pair for $5. On Monday, Dec. 2 Melendez pleaded guilty to six charges related to drug distribution and illegal firearm possession. According to a report from the District Attorney's Office, On March 15, 2022, the North Adams Police Department executed a search warrant of 64 Charles Street, North Adams. The search was conducted based on previous investigation a suspected large-scale drug distribution involving Melendez.  PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Pittsfield High School's dean of students has been placed on administrative leave after a federal drug arrest on Wednesday morning. Lavante Wiggins was one of two city men arrested and charged by the U.S. Attorney's Office for allegedly conspiring to traffic large quantities of cocaine in Western Massachusetts. Wiggins was arrested at his East Street home. Superintendent Joseph Curtis promptly sent a communication to staff and parents addressing the arrest.
