 NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – Northern Berkshire Sports Academy and the Saboteurs Sunday took home the A and B Division titles in the NBSA Fall Basketball League. Chris Brown scored the final four points of the game at the foul line to give NBSA a 71-68 win over Giardina and Bressett PC in the A Division final at Drury High School. Brown, who went 12-for-13 at the line in the game, finished with a team-high 28 points in the win. Scott McGuire scored 15 points, including 11 in the first half, when NBSA built a 41-37 lead. BOSTON — Emergency Assistance Director Lt. General Scott Rice provided an update on next steps for the state's emergency family shelter system as it approaches its capacity limit. Earlier this month, Governor Maura Healey announced that the state does not have enough shelter space, service providers or funding to safely expand beyond 7,500 families. As of Monday, Oct. 30, there are 7,319 families in emergency shelter. Berkshire Delegation Commends Advocacy Of Constituents for Rural School Aid ProgramStaff Reports ,

BOSTON — State Senator Paul Mark, on behalf of the Berkshire Delegation, announced that funding for the Rural School Aid grant program has been raised to $15 million for Fiscal Year 2024, resulting in increases ranging from 30-210 percent for schools in the Berkshire, Hampden, Franklin and Hampshire District. The program provides financial assistance to the Commonwealth's most rural school districts. PITTSFIELD, Mass. The Board of Health on Wednesday voted to demolish a condemned multifamily that was destroyed by a fire last year. The panel voted to order a demolition for 91 to 93 Orchard Street, which suffered a two-alarm structure fire on July 4, 2022, that charred the front porch and front portion of the home. It was condemned a few days later. Director of Public Health Andy Cambi explained that the department identifies properties with code violations that impair health and safety as condemned and after a year, they have the option to bring the property to demolish. "We do that in most cases where there are no interested parties in the dwelling," he said, adding

Let's Go Paperless | This is from Ward 6 Councilor John Krol's eblast today. His switch to digital immediately caught our attention. With the associated costs - nearly $4,000 a year for paper alone! - zipping councilors "the packet" (as we in the know like to call it) over the ether makes loads of sense.
Digital also means the average citizen gets far better access to these public documents than ever before. The city clerk's office has been diligent about posting meeting agendas and, where possible, relevant documents. So in terms of saving money and time and getting information out efficiently, digital is the way to go.
I would like to thank City Clerk Linda Tyer for agreeing to print out one less city council packet, as I have officially gone paperless for council meetings - which I hope will be a trend that can be extended throughout city government.
 The bulky (and often, very bulky) city council packet that councilors use for a reference costs an average of $170 per meeting for paper alone. Add the additional costs of ink/toner, wear and tear on city hall copiers, and the time and energy of staff who put it all together - and a simple transition away from paper benefits everyone.

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Dozens of youths, many of them under the age of 5, attended an open house at the Berkshire Music School Saturday, as the educational nonprofit enters its 70th year at its 30 Wendell Avenue home.
The open house featured a sample class, access to musical instruments, information for parents, refreshments... and more than a few delighted squeals, proving once again the inherent interest in making a joyful noise is not generational, and will never go out of style.
