PITTSFIELD, Mass. — A special City Council meeting was called on Thursday to discuss the fiscal year 2022 audits. It was found that the city over-reported more than $250,000 in American Rescue Plan Act funds, which alarmed some councilors and members of the public. "We found that you over-reported two hundred something thousand expenditures between two quarters," Tom Scanlon of Scanlon and Associates explained. "It was with the Ashley Water Treatment Plant, I believe." The facility's chemical storage building was allocated $4.6 million and is supposed to be completed this season. BOSTON — The Healey-Driscoll Administration announced the appointment of Molly Jacobson as the new President and Chief Executive Officer of Commonwealth Corporation.  NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – Northern Berkshire Sports Academy and the Saboteurs Sunday took home the A and B Division titles in the NBSA Fall Basketball League. Chris Brown scored the final four points of the game at the foul line to give NBSA a 71-68 win over Giardina and Bressett PC in the A Division final at Drury High School. Brown, who went 12-for-13 at the line in the game, finished with a team-high 28 points in the win. Scott McGuire scored 15 points, including 11 in the first half, when NBSA built a 41-37 lead. BOSTON — Emergency Assistance Director Lt. General Scott Rice provided an update on next steps for the state's emergency family shelter system as it approaches its capacity limit. Earlier this month, Governor Maura Healey announced that the state does not have enough shelter space, service providers or funding to safely expand beyond 7,500 families. PITTSFIELD, Mass. The Board of Health on Wednesday voted to demolish a condemned multifamily that was destroyed by a fire last year. The panel voted to order a demolition for 91 to 93 Orchard Street, which suffered a two-alarm structure fire on July 4, 2022, that charred the front porch and front portion of the home. It was condemned a few days later. Director of Public Health Andy Cambi explained that the department identifies properties with code violations that impair health and safety as condemned and after a year, they have the option to bring the property to demolish. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Wednesday night's mayoral debate at Berkshire Community College started off with a bang as candidates spoke to controversies that have come out during their campaigns.
At the start of the event hosted by Pittsfield Community Television and iBerkshires, Peter Marchetti and John Krol wasted no time in addressing them.
Krol was accused of using nearly $7,000 from a nonprofit cat rescue and Marchetti was named in a civil complaint filed in September by former co-worker Victoria May at Pittsfield Cooperative Bank that included allegations of sex discrimination and creating a hostile work environment.
